Moussa Dembele became the talking point across the world late on Tuesday after images emerged showing that he fainted while training with his Atletico Madrid teammates. He has reportedly undergone further medical examination after the incident.

The 24-year-old French center-forward was stretching and warming up with his teammates at Atletico Madrid when he suddenly fell on the training pitch and reportedly lost consciousness.

Immediately his teammates noticed that Moussa Dembele had collapsed, the attention of the club’s medical team was called upon and the medical personnel started treating him on the pitch. The team called for an ambulance and stretcher but they were not used because the French striker regained consciousness sooner than expected.

After he regained consciousness, he was advised to withdraw from the club’s training session for the day and he was reportedly seen driving home in his car which means that it was not a complicated issue. But still had to undergo more medical examination.

Viral reports are suggesting that Moussa Dembele fainted because he suffered from low sugar but as of the time of publishing this report, Dembele nor the Spanish club had not issued any statement in reaction to the incident.

It is suspected that Dembele had to collapse because he has been training very hard so that he could measure up with the expectation of Atletico Madrid’s coach Diego Simeone. The French star has been struggling to have regular playing time under the coach since he joined the club on loan from Olympique Lyon on January 13, 2021.

His chances at Atletico Madrid became slimmer on Sunday, March 21, 2021, when coach Diego Simeone gave him the chance to play against Alaves from the bench but couldn’t score one of the best goalscoring opportunities of the match.

In the match which ended 1-0 in favor of Atletico Madrid, the club had to rely on Jan Oblak to save Alaves’ penalty kick to give the La Liga table toppers the maximum three points.

After the game, Simeone sounded unhappy with the performance of Moussa Dembele as he told the press how having more playing time is not as important as making the most of the time on the pitch.

“I always say that the number of minutes is not important. What matters is the quality of these minutes”, Simeone said.

“I hope that Dembele can bring us what we hoped for when he arrived in the team.”

So far this season, Dembele has played only 2 Spanish La Liga games without scoring nor assisting. Before he joined the Spanish club on loan in January, he had played 16 Ligue 1 games for Olympique Lyon this season. He is expected to return to Lyon at the end of the season.
