Following the contract expiration of Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen next year June,

The Denmark international is understood to have told the club that he wants to leave at the end of his contract in the summer, paving way for the midfielder to join another club in the Premier League or in Europe.

When Mourinho was appointed head coach, he said the number of games and the number of times Eriksen gets will be determined by his long-term future. Since then, the Dane has played fewer games and has come in as a substitute both in the league and Champions League.

According to reports, Tottenham might try to sell Eriksen in January, with the player free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with European clubs. Eriksen has recently suffered a severe dip in form and it might hinder his chances of a move to a top European club like Real Madrid and United. He struggled in midweek as Spurs were beaten by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Speaking about what he discussed with Eriksen concerning his future, Mourinho on Friday said he does not want to betray the player’s trust by revealing the nature of their talks.

He said: “I only know his contract ends at the end of the season and the conversations I have had with Christian are private conversations that I am not going to share,” he said.

“I think it is a personal thing. I am not going to share.

“He was so honest with me and I was so honest with him that our relationship is really, really good.

“We have a very good relationship that started on day one. I am not going to betray that trust and relationship.

“I just share these intimate conversations with the structure of the club, and Christian obviously knows I am an important part of the club and my job is to share with the structure but to you, it is not for me to say.

“It is up to Christian to tell anything he wants to or not.”
