Moroccan National Team Players Donate Blood to Victims of The Morocco Earthquake

Members of the Moroccan national team led by Achraf Hakimi have donated blood to the victims of the Morocco earthquake that claimed the lives of 2,012 people, with the rescue team still working hard to keep survivors alive.

After Amal Duraid, the director of the regional Center for Blood Transfusion in Casablanca, launched an appeal for blood donation, the Atlas Lions sacrificed their practice time to engage in life-saving activities.

A video surfaced online showing the Moroccan team approaching a blood transfusion center with a lot of fans cheering them up.

The Moroccan national team was meant to play Liberia in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, but that game was postponed due to the earthquake with the agreement of the Confederation of African Football.

However, the team is scheduled to play a friendly match against Burkina Faso on September 11, 2023, in France.

The Morocco managers and coaching staffs will pay tribute to the deceased with a minute of silence before they kick off of the match against their African counterpart.

Apart from the Atlas Lion donating blood, thousands of people in their numbers have gone to the blood transfusion center to donate blood.

It was revealed that 6,000 bags of blood were collected every day.

According to the Country Interior Ministry, it was revealed that 1,404 people are currently in a critical condition and are undergoing a series of treatments.

Also, 2,059 people were injured in the 6.8-magnitude earthquake. It was the worst and most powerful earthquake recorded in the country in the past 120 years.

Many people in the affected areas abandoned their homes to sleep on the street to avoid becoming victims of the horrible incident.

The earthquake was so powerful that it destroyed a lot of historical buildings in the city of Marrakech.

Apart from Marrakech City, other provinces like Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant were affected.

The earthquake had also made rescuing difficult due to the fact that there were a lot of rocks blocking the roads.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi took to his social media account to offer condolences to the victim of the incident.

He said, “It is time to help each other save as many lives as possible. My condolences to all who lost a loved one.”

Morocco striker Walid Cheddira said, “My heart breaks for my country. Living in this moment is not easy for everyone. Our thoughts are with all the victims and injured. May Allah bless them”.

West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd said, “Our first duty is to make Moroccans happy and also to be on their side when something like this happens.”
