It seems the backroom changes post-Arsene Wenger era is not done as director of football operations, Huss Fahmy leaves Arsenal, citing a loss of decision-making power.

The change is coming after four years at the club, following the departure of Raul Sanllehi in the summer. Following the development, the technical director Edu has taken on greater influence while Kroenke Sports & Entertainment hired lawyer Tim Lewis as Arsenal’s non-executive director in July. This leaves Fahmy to pursue other options.

As part of the reshuffle that see Vinai Venkatesham becoming chief executive of the club and Sanllehi take over as football director, Fahmy joined Arsenal in 2017.

Huus Fahmy was part of negotiations for contract extension of Mohammed Elnelny

According to a source, the split was “amicable”. Fahmy, who joined the Gunners from pro-cycling Team Sky is renowned for his contractual expertise. It was gathered that he was heavily involved in the appointments of Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta. He also led negotiations with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

His time at the club brought about Mesut Ozil’s contract issue which cast a large shadow over the squad, while Aaron Ramsey became a free agent and eventually joined Juventus on a free transfer.

With his departure, it was gathered that Arsenal has to look at several disadvantageous contracts they might get rid of this season.

More power for Edu as Fahmy leaves Arsenal

As the influence of Edu continues to wax stronger, it is hoped that this will be a good thing for the Gunners in the long run.

Mikel Arteta might get more powerful as times go on like Wenger who had created a dynasty at the outfit before leaving.

The question now will be who will replace Fahmy ?

It is therefore hoped that whoever comes in to fill in the role won’t be rubber stamped person as Edu continues to call the shot.

Since Arteta and Edu seem to have the support of the major shareholder, they are going to be doing this for the long term, except if the results start becoming unfavourable.

It is therefore hoped that this will be a good decision in the long run for all the parties involved and Arsenal will go back to the high level it belongs.
