Mohamed Salah has been showing impressive performance on the pitch but Speculation regarding his future at Liverpool has cast a shadow over his achievement.

Liverpool’s prolific goalscorer Mohamed Salah has suggested that this could be his final season with the club following a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, September 1.

Salah’s future remains uncertain as he enters the last year of his contract at Anfield, with no discussions yet on a possible extension.

However, in a jaw dropping post match interview with Sky Sports, the 32-year-old Egyptian revealed:”I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club.”

“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it. I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”

Despite the uncertainty, Salah’s focus remains on enjoying his final season with the club and letting his performance on the field speak for itself, as evidenced by his stunning display against United with a goal and two assists.

Salah added: “To be fair I was coming to the game, it could be the last time playing at Old Trafford.”

Meanwhile, the Egyptian’s last comment could potentially give Liverpool a glimmer of hope with Salah further elaborated by mentioning that he has not had any communication with the club regarding a new contract.

He said: “Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. It is not up to me, it is up to the club.”

The Egyptian forward signed a three-year deal in 2022, becoming the club’s highest-paid player, but has been linked to a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League.

Last year, Liverpool reportedly rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad for Salah, fueling rumors about his departure. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Salah’s future remains uncertain.

However, Mohamed Salah is not the only key player out of contract, with captain Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also facing uncertain futures.

Despite this, new manager Arne Slot has made a promising start, leading Liverpool to three consecutive Premier League wins without conceding.

When asked about Salah’s potential departure, Slot remained tight-lipped, praising the player’s performance and adapting to the team’s new system.

Arne Slot said: “It’s a lot of if, but for the moment he is one of ours, and I’m really, really happy with him being one of ours.”

“I don’t talk about contracts in front of players, but I can talk for hours about how well he played today.”

The Reds currently sit second in the table, behind Manchester City on goals scored.

Mohamed Salah Illustrious career with Liverpool

Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah’s illustrious senior career began in 2010 with Al Mokawloon, before moving on to Swiss club Basel where he secured two Swiss Super League titles.

Mohamed Salah joined Chelsea in 2014 for a reported fee of £11 million but had a limited playing time, leading to loan spells at Fiorentina and Roma.

Roma eventually made the deal permanent for €15 million, where Salah played a crucial role in their 2016-17 title bid.

Thereafter, a big-money move to Liverpool in 2017 for £36.9 million saw Salah set the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season with 32 goals, and he helped lead The Reds to the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.

Salah’s success at Liverpool continued as he played a key role in the club’s victories in the Champions League and Premier League over the next two seasons.

He has also added trophies such as the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield to his collections.

The 32-year-old former Chelsea star has registered his name into the record books of the English giants, scoring 214 goals since joining Liverpool in 2017.

Along the way, Salah has received numerous individual awards, including multiple PFA Players’ Player of the Year honors, Premier League Golden Boots, and the titles of Premier League Player and Playmaker of the Season.

He has also been a finalist for the Best FIFA Men’s Player and Ballon d’Or awards on multiple occasions.

In addition, Salah won the 2018 FIFA Puskás Award for a memorable goal in the Merseyside derby.

In 2023, he made history by becoming Liverpool’s highest-ever goalscorer in the Premier League and scoring his 200th goal for the club, joining an elite group of players in the process.

What’s next for Liverpool and Salah?

Liverpool will host Nottingham Forest in a thrilling Premier League match on Saturday, September 14 at Anfield Stadium with kickoff set at 15: 00BST.

Mohamed Salah’s recent comments indicating that he has not yet talked with Liverpool about a contract extension suggest that the possibility of him staying with the club will depend on whether they offer him a new deal.

Given his importance to the team, it is likely that Liverpool will make every effort to retain his services, especially considering they would not want to lose him at this time.
