Mohamed Salah has described his contract with Liverpool as a “sensitive situation” even though reports in the United Kingdom claimed that he was on the verge of signing a new deal with the club.

The current contract between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool will expire on June 30, 2023, but the Premier League side wants to tie him down to a new contract before any team steals him away from the club.

Since Salah joined the club from AS Roma on July 1, 2017, for a transfer fee worth €42 million, Liverpool have renewed his stay at the club once which was on July 2, 2018.

Reports claimed that the contract extension the 29-year-old Egyptian right-winger signed with Liverpool in 2018 currently earns him £200,000 per week which is believed not to be good enough for a play of his caliber.

Note that since Mohamed Salah joined Liverpool in 2017, the Egyptian footballer has scored 153 goals and provided 57 assists in all competitions.

His effort helped Liverpool to win the Premier League title in 2020. Before then, Salah helped Liverpool to win the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Super Cup titles in 2019.

So far this season, the Egyptian football icon has scored 28 goals and provided 10 assists in 38 games in all competitions.

Due to how important he has been for Liverpool, Salah is reportedly pushing to be paid nothing less than £400,000 per week which is double his current pay.

Reports claimed that the proposed contract extension is being delayed because Liverpool were unwilling to accept Salah’s wage demand. The delay in reaching an agreement with Liverpool has sparked speculations that Salah could leave the club if the club fails to agree to his demand.

However, recent reports claimed that Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing on a deal with Salah which could keep the Egyptian footballer at the club until the end of his football career.

Earlier today, April 8, Salah had an interview with Sky Sports and the media outlet tried to use the opportunity to get first-hand information from the player concerning his contract with Liverpool, Salah insisted that it was too complicated to talk about his contract saga ahead of an important game.

Despite all attempts to make the footballer confirm the progress of the contract extension talks between him and Liverpool, Salah insisted that it was a “sensitive situation” to talk about ahead of Manchester City vs Liverpool clash.

Mohamed Salah said: “Well not much but honestly, but what I can say is there many things people don’t know about it.

“I can’t be selfish and talk about my situation. We are in the most important period for the team so I have to just talk about the team and focus on what is coming with the team and that is the most important thing.

“That is all I can say. Hopefully, we are going to be more optimistic and see what is going to happen.”

On whether he was confident that he would extend his contract with Liverpool, Salah added: “I can’t say yes, I can’t say no but I have said many times before about what I want. But again, I can’t go deep into my contract now because it is a really sensitive situation.

“The team need to win and I can’t be just going into the news and just talking about my contract. I just focus on the team, and that is it.”

On Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 16:30, Liverpool will be at the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City that are currently leading the league table with 73 points in 30 games, a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

Ahead of the Premier League game which many saw as a title decider, Mohamed Salah stressed that Manchester City have a couple of advantages over Liverpool. The fact that City will play the game on City’s home ground and the fact that City are a point ahead of Liverpool is an advantage over the Merseyside club according to Salah.

“They are a point ahead and play at home,” Mohamed Salah said. “I think that gives them more of an advantage.

“However, we are experienced players now and we’ve played together for four or five years. We know how to play big games.

“Hopefully we will win the next game but if you ask me about advantage, they have more of an advantage because they are a point ahead and are at home…

“The most important thing for us is not to lose the game, but if we lose the gap is going to be bigger.

“The manager talked to us today and just said enjoy the moment and just go for it.”
