Salah’s contract with Liverpool expires in 2023, which has fueled speculation over his long-term future amid ongoing talks but no agreement on new terms.

The 29-year-old, who has 155 goals in 245 games for the Reds, has already stated that he wants to stay and that his decision is up to the club. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, recently stated that the club can only do so much.

Salah and Liverpool are still some distance away’ on a new contract, according to 90min earlier this month. The Liverpool hierarchy is eager to make Salah the club’s highest-paid player, surpassing Virgil van Dijk’s £250,000-per-week deal, but has misgivings about doubling Salah’s current wage to make him one of the highest-paid in the Premier League.

In other words, the Reds are willing to pay £300,000 a week but are unlikely to go above £400,000.

Mohamed Salah claims in a new interview with FourFourTwo that the failure to reach an agreement so far, despite both him and the club’s desire to do so, is not all about money.

When asked if he was confident about being a Liverpool player in the long run, he answered the magazine, “I don’t know, I have one year left.”

“I believe the fans understand what I want, but the deal isn’t solely about the money.” So, I’m not sure; I can’t say for sure. I’ve just got a year left, and the fans already know what I want.”

“This club means a lot to me — I’ve enjoyed my football here more than anyplace else, and everyone witnessed that,” Salah continued. I’ve had a lot of incredible experiences here, like winning trophies, scoring individual goals, and receiving individual trophies. It’s like being part of a family here.”
