The visit to the Spanish capital came four years after Klopp’s team famously defeated Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.

The historic comeback saw Liverpool overturn a 3-0 first leg loss, before proceeding to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the final.

The squad’s loss came after a tasking run of six games in 20 days, a run where Liverpool earned six successive victories to increase their ambitions of sealing a spot in the top four.
