Columbus Crew Sign Goalkeeper Abraham Romero

MLS champions Columbus Crew have boosted their goalkeeping ranks with the addition of young goalkeeper Abraham Romero to the squad.

The MLS giants confirmed the signing of the Mexican youth international for $50,000 from Los Angeles FC.

Romero has played three first-team games for LAFC. He has also played two FIFA World Cups for Mexico’s youth teams.

“Abraham is a great addition to our team and our strong group of goalkeepers as we approach the final stretch of the season,” Columbus general manager Issa Tall confirmed the arrival of Romero.

The youngster, who had stints with Orange County SC and Las Vegas, emerged into the limelight in US soccer following a 2023 move to LAFC.

Chicago Fire Sign Costa Rica international Ariel Lassiter from CF Montreal

Another top story in our MLS transfer report is Chicago Fire FC’s deal with CF Montreal for the services of Ariel Lassiter.

The Illinois-based franchise have reportedly signed Lassiter for $75,000 from FC Montreal. Lassiter is joining the club a few days after the club terminated the contract of Swiss forward Shedan Shaqiri.

Chicago Fire FC sporting director Georg Heitz confirmed the signing of Lassiter, lauding the player for his versatility and depth of experience.

“Going into the final stretch of the regular season, we wanted to add a versatile player with MLS experience to strengthen our playoff push,” Georg Heitz said.

Lassiter, 29, began his MLS career in 2015 with the LA Galaxy. He has 12 goals and 15 assists in 142 appearances across stints at LA, Houston Dynamo FC, Inter Miami CF, and Montréal.

Grasshopper Club Set to Complete Deal For Mathieu Choiniere

Next on our report is an impending MLS transfer exit. According to Givemesport, CF Montreal are set to part ways with Canada international Mathieu Choiniere.

Swiss club Grasshopper Club Zurich is reportedly close to agreeing a deal with the club for the services of the 25-year-old.

Close sources reveal Grasshopper will pay a fee of $1 million for the player. Choinière is said to have pushed for the move, asking to leave the club after contract renewal talks suffered setbacks.

He has played five times for Canada’s senior national team and was part of the team’s Copa America 2024 squad. The 25-year-old is a homegrown CF Montreal player and has made 139 appearances for the club since his breakout campaign.

FC Cincinnati Sign Niko Gioachinni from Como

Another major update in our MLS transfer report is FC Cincinnati’s completion of a deal to sign Niko Gioachinni from newly promoted Serie A side Como. The MLS club have confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old on loan from the Serie A outfit.

“We’re excited to welcome Niko to Cincinnati. He is an excellent teammate with high character who will provide a versatile presence on our front line,” FC Cincinnati’s general manager Chris Albright says.

Gioacchini signed for Como in January 2022 from St. Louis CITY SC. He played in nine Serie B matches, helping the club secure promotion to Series A.

Gioachinni’s loan move to Cincinnati marks his return to US soccer. He had stints with St. Louis, scoring 10 goals with one assist in 32 matches. He also played for Orlando City SC in thell He also featured for Orlando City SC in 2022.

Gioacchini has three goals in eight USMNT appearances. His most recent appearance with the team was in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.
