MLS Club, DC United, Sign Cameroonian Midfielder Boris Enow

DC United have completed the signing of Cameroonian footballer Boris Enow from Israeli club, Maccabi Netanya.

The MLS club confirmed the signing of the midfielder in a statement on the club’s website.

They further clarified Boris Enow has yet to join the club but will do so when his travel documents to the USA are sorted out.

“D.C. United have signed midfielder Boris Enow from Maccabi Netanya in the Israeli first division, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC),” the club statement reads.

The 24-year-old has reportedly signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the MLS side with an option for an extension till 2028. Reacting to the transfer, DC United General Manager, Ally Mackay lauded the Cameroonian for his talent and work ethic, adding the team is looking forward to onboarding the player immediately.

“Boris is a talented midfielder with a strong work ethic who is coming into the prime of his career. We are looking forward to having him join the squad,” he said.

Boris Enow is a Cameroonian professional football player, who played for Israeli club, Maccabi Netanya, but is now set for a new chapter with MLS side DC United. Enow plays both as an attacking and defensive midfielder.

Born on March 30, 2000, the Cameroonian soccer star began his career with an indigenous football Academy in Cameroon, playing for Ecole de Football Brasseries du Camero. Showing great capabilities as a young burgeoning footballer, he was poached by Porto scouts to the Portuguese side, where he further honed his footballing skills in the club’s Academy.

After one year in Porto Academy, Enow made his first senior club appearance in 2019, playing for Porto reserve team. Meanwhile, he was still juggling his career between Porto youth and the club’s reserve team, playing simultaneously for the two sides. He made 14 appearances for the reserve team, scoring one goal.

In 2020, Ligue 1 side Lens signed him from Porto Academy to France, where he also played in the club’s reserve team. He made 8 appearances in a one-season spell with the Ligue 1 side, which ended in 2021.

After failing to break into Porto and Lens’ first teams, Enow finally registered his first-team action in 2021, following his move to Israeli club, Maccabi Netanya. He spent three seasons with the club, making 91 league appearances, and scoring 3 goals. He has now completed a move to MLS side, DC United, and will hope to continue on elite-level performance for the US top flight.

Apart from his league appearances for Porto and Lens juniors, Enow made no appearance in any other competition for the two clubs. He also played only league football for Maccabi Netanya. Across the three clubs, he has tallied a total of 115 club appearances with 93 of those in elite-level football. He has scored only three goals – all with his last club – Maccabi Netanya – before his move to DC United.

Enow has yet to earn his call-up to Cameroon senior national team. In 2021, he featured for Cameroon U20, and that would be his only spell with the country’s youth levels.

Boris Enow is joining DC United on a three-and-a-half-year contract till 2027. There is also an option for a one-year extension till 2028. As of the time of filing this report, his salary details have yet to be disclosed.
