Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged the club’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to quit thinking and start scoring ahead of the club’s league match against Burnley scheduled for 20:15 today, December 13.

The 31-year-old Gabonese center-forward has been having it extremely difficult since the commencement of the 2020-2021 Premier League season.

The last time Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in the Premier League for Arsenal this season was on November 1, 2020. He scored from the spot-kick away at Old Trafford to give Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

Since then, the striker has not scored any goal and Arsenal have not recorded any victory in the Premier League after their victory over Manchester United. It became so bad for Arsenal that the club has recorded three successive defeats at the Emirate Stadium.

The last time Arsenal won at the Emirate Stadium in the league was on October 4, 2020, when they hosted Sheffield United. The match ended 2-1. Though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played the match, he could not make it to the scoreboard.

So far this season, the only time the club’s captain has scored a goal from open play was on September 12, Arsenal’s first Premier League game of the season. Hence, Aubameyang has managed to score a total of 2 goals and provided just an assist in 11 league matches so far this season.

His poor output has greatly affected the success of the club as the club has recorded 6 defeats, one draw, and just 4 wins in 11 league games which landed Arsenal on the 15th spot on the league table.

The club’s coach, Mikel Arteta, believes that it became difficult for Aubameyang to score for the club because he is thinking too much about his goal drought. The coach, therefore, urged other Arsenal players to help lessen the burden on the striker.

“Sometimes it is how much you think and with natural strikers, like Auba, it comes naturally,” said Mikel Arteta.

“He doesn’t need to think, the action is there and he makes the choice in the right moment, with the right foot and plays the ball into where it needs to be.

“Sometimes when you are in this sort of spell, you overthink a little bit. So you have to let that flow go because, in the end, this is something he has done in his whole career.

“There is nothing we have to teach him to do differently from what he has done in the past.”

Arsenal are expected to win over struggling Burnley later today or risk drawing nearer to the relegation zone. The club is currently 7 points away from 18th placed Burnley and a defeat in the hands of the relegation-threatened team will take Arsenal 4 points closer to the relegation zone.
