Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that he discusses more with Arsenal’s technical director Edu than with his wife Lorena Bernal.
The Arsenal’s coach who stated this jokingly while praising the work of the club’s technical director noted that he is impressed with how Edu has continued to cooperate with him since he started coaching the club in 2019.
Edu has been the technical director of Arsenal since 2019, few months before he championed the return of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal. Recall that both Edu and Arteta had played at Arsenal for more than three seasons.
Since they both started working together at Arsenal, Edu and Mikel Arteta have ensured that the players that are not needed are discarded without resulting in any misunderstanding.
With their joint efforts, they have ensured that a player like Mesut Ozil who did not play any game for Arsenal this season left the club before the expiration of his contract. The duo also ensured that Sokratis, Sead Kolasinac, and William Saliba left the club last summer.
The Arsenal’s coach and the club’s technical director worked together to ensure that Arsenal signed Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan during the 2021 summer transfer window.
“Probably in the last year or so I’ve spoken with Edu more than anybody else in my life. That’s what my wife says!” said Arteta. “Because of all the things we’ve had to go through, with coronavirus and the transfers as well.
“Luckily we have a great relationship, we’ve got a great understanding and we support each other in a great way.
“I think he’s doing a great job. Since I joined, the clarity he showed when they came to try to convince me to join the club, then to stick to the plan that we have and the way he’s going about it, I’m really impressed with him.”
Mikel Arteta’s wife, Lorena Bernal, is an Argentine-Spanish actress, television host, and model. The Arsenal’s coach and his wife have three children – Gabriel (born 2009), Daniel (born 2012), and Oliver (born 2015).
