Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil is the highest-paid player at the club, but he has not been given an opportunity to play in the team since March.

According to findings, the German world cup winner earns about £350,000 per week at the Emirates Stadium. He continues to earn the pay despite being shut out of the first team by Mikel Arteta over internal issues relating to player’s welfare during the coronavirus.

This means that Ozil could earn another £18,200,000 by the end of the season despite failing to kick a ball for the club in any match so far. He will then continue to earn £50,000 per day, £2,083.3 per hour, and £34.7 per minute.

Mesut Ozil has been frozen out of Arsenal

The recent development is that Arteta has left him out of his Premier League squad.

This is following the midfielder’s omission from the team’s Europa League squad as well despite being fit and available for selection.

Ozil last played for Arsenal in March. The German World Cup winner played in every game Arteta’s until the season was halted due to coronavirus pandemic and has not featured since. He was omitted alongside center-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

    Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal career over

His omission is not a shock to many as the internal wranglings over his future continues.

Ozil, who is also the highest-paid player in Arsenal’s history has said he would honour his contract and won’t leave after the Gunners made several attempts to take him off their wage bill in the summer transfer.

The Premier League clubs recently named a 25-man squad after the closure of both the international and domestic transfer windows.

What does this mean for Ozil and Sokratis? They will only be able to represent Arsenal U23s until 2021 at the earliest as Ozil’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires next summer.

This could make Arteta send the duo to the reserves to continue their training.

With 19 non-homegrown players over the age of 21, Arsenal has two more than the limit allowed by both the Premier League and UEFA; thus the tenable reason for dropping the German and Greek.

The players named in the Arsenal squad includes Cedric Soares, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin (homegrown), Willian, Dani Ceballos, Calum Chambers (homegrown), Gabriel, Mohamed Elneny, Rob Holding (homegrown), Sead Kolasinac, Alexandre Lacazette, Bernd Leno, Matt Macey (homegrown), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (homegrown), Pablo Mari, David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi, Thomas Partey, Nicolas Pepe, Alex Runar Runarsson, Kieran Tierney, and Granit Xhaka.

What’s the next move for Ozil

Now that he has been finally shut out of the first team, what could be the next move for the 32-year-old?

It could be noted that almost every transfer window in Europe now shut, except for Portugal, where clubs have until October 25 to sign new players.

It was reported that Gunners tried to loan him to a UAE club, but he turned it down insisting that he wants to honour his contract at the Emirates. Although the UAE transfer window closed on October 6, their FA still awaits Fifa approval to reopen that by a month.

The alternative options for Ozil is now Portugal or Qatar, whose window does not close until October 25, or the MLS, whose secondary window shuts four days later.

There are some criteria set for each Premier League club in submitting a squad list for the 2020/21 season.

Each squad contains no more than 17 players who do not fulfill the “Home Grown Player” (HGP) criteria while the rest up to a total of 25 players, must be “Home Grown”. Clubs are also allowed an additional list of registered U21 players.
