Embattled Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, is reportedly in talks with a Major League Soccer (MLS) club, DC United for a possible transfer deal. The club reportedly intends to make the 32-year-old German midfielder the face of the club if he signs the deal.

Mesut Ozil has not played competitive football since mid-March 2020 after the coronavirus halted football in Europe. Coach Mikel Arteta went on to win the 2019-2020 FA Cup and Community Shield with little or no input from the former Germany international.

Before the commencement of the 2020-2021 season, it was looking like the midfielder would have his way back to Mikel Arteta’s squad but to the dismay of many, the coach left him out of his Premier League squad for the first half of the league.

The Spanish coach went on to leave out Mesut Ozil in his Europa League squad and has failed to play the center-midfielder in any other competition so far this season. Even though Ozil still has about 6 months left on his contract with Arsenal, he has been subjected to train away from Arsenal’s first-team squad.

Despite his ill-treatment at the club, Ozil who earns a whopping £350,000-per-week has continued to show support to the team while he awaits his next move. The next move could be to join DC United.

The Major League Soccer club reportedly intends to offer the 32-year-old midfielder a bumper contract which would not be limited to footballing activities alone. DC United reportedly plans to expand Mesut Ozil’s M10 brand in the whole of the United States.

More so, if the former Real Madrid midfielder signs the deal, DC United would play a part in the expansion of the midfielder’s merchandise line and his 39 Steps Coffee brand.

The deal is most likely to scale through due to the cordial relationship that exists between Ozil’s agent, Dr. Erkut Sogut, and DC United’s executive Sam Porter.

If Ozil signs for DC United, he would become one of the biggest Premier League stars to ever play for the MLS club. The most famous player to ever sign for the club was Wayne Rooney. The former England international left Everton for DC United in 2018.

Mesut Ozil who joined Arsenal in 2013 from Real Madrid for a transfer fee worth £42.5 million, has made a total of 254 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 44 goals and providing 77 assists in all competitions.

Arsenal can only benefit financially from his transfer if a club signs him during the January transfer window. If the midfielder is not able to get a club in January, he would have to wait until June 30 this year to walk away as a free agent.
