Mesut Ozil can only leave Arsenal football club if a club makes an offer that benefits both the club and the player during the 2021 January transfer window. The coach of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta revealed this recently.

The 32-year-old German center-midfielder has been experiencing the toughest time of his football career especially since Mikel Arteta became the coach of the London club.

He was not registered for the first half of this season’s Premier League and Europa League campaign. It has been so bad that Mesut Ozil has not been training with the club’s first team and had to train separately even though he still has about 6 months left on his contract.

With all these at the back of Ozil’s mind who has been earning £350,000-per-week at Arsenal, doing almost nothing in the last 10 months, this January transfer window is seen as an opportunity for him to leave Arsenal to a club where he can start playing football again.

But no matter what has been happening between the club and the player, Ozil might not be allowed to leave if the money is not right from the perspective of the club.

“If something is sorted this month [in the January transfer window], it’s because it’s good for both parties”, Arteta said when asked about Ozil ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round match against Newcastle scheduled for Saturday, January 9, at 18:30.

Since the January transfer window opened, Mesut Ozil has been linked with a move to a couple of clubs in and outside Europe. Two of the clubs that the midfielder is heavily linked to are Fenerbahce and DC United.

Other clubs are also looking at a possibility of signing the midfielder but nothing concrete yet as the player reportedly wishes to stay at Arsenal throughout his contract which will expire in June 2021.

“In the next seven to 10 days, it will be a little clearer” where Ozil will head to according to his agent, Dr. Erkut Sogut. But come what may, Arsenal would not want the player to remain at the club until June because Ozil’s contract would have expired then, and free to join any club without a transfer fee.

It will be interesting to see how Ozil’s saga at Arsenal will end as it seems the club has moved on as far as Ozil is concerned even though many football fans and pundits still believe that the midfielder has a big role to play in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
