A clash between the two titans of German football has always been a cracker, although Bayern Munich boasts a deeper depth of quality players.

The two clubs have met 37 times. Bayer won 15 times, Monchengladbach 11 times, and drawn 11 times.

The Bavarians were dominant throughout the game, but a 43rd-minute strike by Marcus Thuram gave the visitors a surprise lead. The dramatic 1-0 at the 43rd minute flung the Allianz Arena into a seething cauldron of high-pitched emotions as the Bavarians passed the ball around with no success on goal.

Normalcy returned late into the second half. It was Leroy Sane’s 83rd-minute leveler that tied the game till the final whistle, but Sommer has already emerged as the hero of the game with his spectacular performance making the headlines.
