Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has warned Nicolas Jackson over his unnecessary yellow cards, as the player is nearly on the verge of a one-game suspension.
The former Villarreal striker has been booked on four different occasions for showing dissent.
The Premier League has strict rules against such behavior, and he may get punished if there is any repetition of it.
Mauricio Pochettino wants Nicolas Jackson to adapt to the new country and the new league.
In his press conference on September 22, 2023, ahead of the encounter against Aston Villa, Pochettino said,
“We were talking about that today because we were in a meeting with him and also Enzo Fernandez. I think, come on. A striker gets four yellow cards only for talking with the referee.
“You need to get some yellow cards for different actions, not for that. It’s so easy, so cheap yellow cards, and I think it is going to put the team in a very difficult situation, but he understood.
“But he needs to be clever not to protest to the referees. Maybe because it is his normal behavior on the pitch, it’s a thing that maybe needs to improve.
“Maybe this season, change the rule; he came from Spain; it’s different the relationship with the referees in England; things have now changed, and people are more sensitive about this.”
The Senegalese had caught the attention of Chelsea fans with his willingness as a striker to track back in games.
However, his finishing shows he is still improving and is not yet a world-class striker to lead the Chelsea attack to winning titles.
Nicolas Jackson had been vested with the goal-scoring burden due to the absence of Christopher Nkunku, who may return before the end of 2023.
Also, Armando Broja is not fully ready for the season but is showing signs of recovery with his incessant training with the first team.
Nicolas Jackson had scored only once since joining the West London Giant from Villarreal in a £32 million deal.
However, it is just his first season at Chelsea, and he may develop into a legend when he gets his aura back.
However, his performance is below expectations as fans expect a lot from him and Pochettino’s Chelsea after a good pre-season.
The football club is currently in 14th place with one win from five matches this season. However, injuries to key players have been a limiting factor in Chelsea’s success this season.
Chelsea’s season of winning titles kicks off when Pochettino brings back the whole squad. The fans and the owners are patient with him and the owners wouldn’t consider sacking the Argentine when results get worse this season.
