PSG may have won Ligue 1 with relative ease this season, but manager Mauricio Pochettino has made it clear that it is insufficient given the club’s high expectations.

Last summer, the French champions were able to add Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi to their ranks. Expectations for this season were reasonably high, especially with players like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe already on board.

PSG was one of the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League even before the season began, thanks to their transfer activities. However, in the Round of 16, they were cruelly eliminated by Real Madrid, resulting in a season that fell short of expectations.

PSG was also knocked out of the Coupe de France by Nice in the Round of 16 to add insult to injury. Even though they won their ninth Ligue 1 title this season, the club’s expectations are bound to be much higher. Mauricio Pochettino, the club’s manager, conceded as much and stated that winning the UEFA Champions League remains the club’s ultimate goal. Pochettino addressed the issue during a recent press conference, saying:

“In a club like Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Champions League is always the goal. The most crucial aspect is to try to create something unique. What matters is that you learn from your mistakes. This football team is preparing to compete.

Despite a disappointing season, Pochettino believes his club has what it takes to rehabilitate and return better next season. He also believes it will only be a matter of time before the club achieves its genuine goals. He said:

“I believe the players have the mentality to restart and rebuild the run in order to re-compete. It’s difficult with a club like Paris Saint-Germain because the goals are so lofty, and sometimes winning the title seems insufficient.

Of course, that isn’t enough for us; we want to win every single competition we enter. “I believe the club is on the right track; it’s only a matter of time before they realize their goals. Pochettino is expected to meet with the club’s president in the coming days to discuss his future prospects, despite suggestions that he could be fired.

With his current contract scheduled to expire this summer, Kylian Mbappe’s future has been a major topic of discussion for some time. Despite PSG’s best efforts to keep the young phenom, Mbappe has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and many believe he will do so this summer.

The Ligue 1 winners have made it apparent that they want to keep him, and various sources say that they have made several generous offers to keep him for the foreseeable future.

Mbappe had previously stated that he would make a choice after the current season, but with only a few months left, he claimed to have almost decided on his future. While PSG fans hope and pray that he stays, Real Madrid supporters are reportedly growing more optimistic about pulling him away from France this summer.
