Mauricio Pochettino has never sought to leave PSG for Manchester United, according to Leonardo, the Ligue 1 club’s director of football.
The Argentine has been linked with a return to the Premier League for some time, but the head of football in Paris insists he will stay.
PSG are clear leaders in France’s first flight and are vying for their first Champions League crown, despite Pochettino’s future at the club being a source of frequent speculation.
Leonardo, on the other hand, claims that the club has never discussed changing managers and that Pochettino has never expressed a desire to leave.
Leonardo on Pochettino’s Future
“He still has a year remaining on his contract [until June 2023],” Leonardo told L’Equipe of Pochettino. We never considered switching coaches, to be honest. We never attempted to contact Zinedine Zidane or anyone else.
“Pochettino was in the top five coaches [in the world] before coming here, and he is still in the top five. Even though a lot has happened, we can see the development that has been done. Because you gain a greater understanding of the situation over time, I always see him become more involved.
“I believe he had doubts at times, but he never wanted to leave.” He may have had a terrible period, such as when he had Covid in February or March. Then there were rumors of departing during the summer. But no club requested his presence, and no one contacted us.”
Pochettino spent some of his playing days with PSG, and Leonardo believes that, combined with the opportunity to manage a team that includes Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and others, he would be compelled to stay.
“I don’t have a problem with Pochettino,” he remarked. We are really open and honest, and we discuss everything. He never expressed a desire to leave. A coach in his situation, how could he not be motivated?
“You have a team like that, and you’re at PSG, where you used to play.” I’m not sure how this is an issue for debate.”
Is Mauricio Pochettino wanted by Manchester United?
When Ralf Rangnick’s interim tenure at Old Trafford ends at the conclusion of the season, the PSG manager remains one of the favorites to take over as manager.
The Red Devils have had a long-standing interest in selecting the Argentine, who is well-liked by United board members and has received accolades for his work at Tottenham Hotspur.
Indeed, it was stated in February 2022 that Pochettino is dissatisfied at Parc des Princes and that he may leave at the end of the season.
