Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic took to Instagram to share pictures of the christening of his son Ivan which took place in a Roman Catholic Church in Croatia.

Though the Croatia midfielder is back from his international break and has started pre-season training with Chelsea, he decided to share the pictures of the christening on Tuesday, August 3, which means that the christening took place when he was still enjoying his international break.

Recall that all the players that participated in the just concluded Euro 2020 were given more days off than other players who were not involved in any major tournament with their countries.

Mateo Kovacic was very crucial for his country during the just-concluded European Championship as he helped Croatia to get to the knock-out round of the tournament before their journey ended. He did not miss a game throughout Croatia’s stay in the tournament and provided an assist in four matches.

After the tournament, one of the things the 27-year-old midfielder decided to do was to take his baby boy to church to be christened even though he was born almost a year ago.

During the christening of Ivan who was born on 12 October 2020, the godfather of the boy was Real Madrid midfielder and Croatia captain, Luka Modric.

In the pictures that Mateo Kovacic shared on Instagram to give his 4.2 million followers an inside to the event, Modric could be seen posing with his wife Vanja Bosnić, the father of the child, Kovacic, and the mother of the boy, Izabel Andrijanić at the Church premises.

Izabel Andrijanić is a Croatian woman who was born on 17 December 1992. She graduated from the University of Zagreb in Croatia where she studied Economics and Business.

Long before she went for her university education, she has known Mateo Kovacic. As two devoted Christians, they met at a church in Croatia and maintained the friendship which later turned to a relationship in 2011 even after Kovacic has left the country to pursue his football career.

After years of dating, Izabel Andrijanić and Mateo Kovacic got married in 2017 in St Anthony of Padua in Sesvete, Croatia, the same church they first met.

The ceremony was so huge that it had over 600 people in attendance including footballers from Real Madrid, the club he was playing for at the time, and his national teammates. It was reported that Kovacic spent over £250,000 on the wedding.

Unlike other women who are married to football stars, Izabel Andrijanić is a businesswoman which means that she does not depend on the money her husband earns as a football star.

She runs a company that is into the production and sales of organic and eco-friendly baby products named Lunilou. Izabel and her sister, Ivana Lucic started the company in 2015.

As mentioned earlier, Izabel’s marriage with Mateo Kovacic is blessed with a son named Ivan who was born on 12 October 2020. She and her husband are expected to remain in London until June 30, 2024, when the footballer’s contract with Chelsea is expected to expire.
