Chelsea and Liverpool will meet in the 2021-2022 FA Cup final on May 14, 2022, at the Wembley Stadium. Ahead of the showdown, Chelsea’s attacking midfielder, Mason Mount declared the final as a payback time.
Recall that in February 2022, Liverpool defeated Chelsea in the EFL Cup final via penalties at the Wembley Stadium. Hence, the two Premier League clubs are meeting at the stadium in a domestic cup final for the second time this season.
Liverpool booked a place in the FA Cup final on Saturday, April 16, after beating Manchester City 3-2 in the semi-final stage of the competition at the Wembley Stadium.
On Sunday, April 17, Chelsea faced Crystal Palace in the semi-final stage of the competition at the Wembley Stadium and defeated them 2-0 to record their 5th FA Cup final in 6 years.

In the first half of the tie, Crystal Palace looked like a team that would give Chelsea a run for their money as they made the game almost impossible for the reigning UEFA Champions League winners to play.
After a caging first 45 minutes, the two sides failed to create enough chances that could lead to goals. The best chance in the first half fell into the hands of Palace’s Cheikhou Kouyate but goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was able to stop Kouyate’s attempt from going in.
In the second half, Coach Thomas Tuchel and his boys were able to turn things around by taking full control of the game.
The 65th-minute goal from first-half substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek gave Chelsea more confidence to attack against a resilient Patrick Vieira’s side. In the 76th minute, Mason Mount scored the winner.
Liverpool vs Chelsea FA Cup final is Payback time according to Mason Mount

Just like every other Chelsea player, Mason Mount is yet to forget the eventful EFL Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea on February 27, 2022.
During the game, the two sides played a goalless draw in the regular 90 minutes and in the 30 minutes of extra time. Hence, the game went into penalties.
A few minutes before the referee ended the game for the penalty shootout to commence, coach Thomas Tuchel decided to bring in goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to replace Edouard Mendy because it is believed that Kepa was a better penalty stopper.
Unfortunately, Kepa failed to stop any of the 11 penalty kicks Liverpool had to take. To make matters worst, Kepa also failed to score his spot-kick to hand over the EFL Cup title to Liverpool.
On May 14, Chelsea will attempt to revenge for the painful loss by defeating Liverpool in the FA Cup final. The club’s talisman, Mason Mount has stressed that the FA Cup final is Chelsea’s time to win a final at Wembley Stadium after losing the 2020 FA Cup final to Arsenal, the 2021 FA Cup final to Leicester City, and the 2022 EFL Cup to Liverpool.
“It’s definitely time for us to win a final at Wembley, it’s five finals I’ve lost. Now it’s time to get our payback,” Mason Mount who has scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 46 games for Chelsea this season told ITV Sport.
While the coach of the side, Thomas Tuchel said: “I don’t care about Liverpool’s other titles. We want to turn things around (against them) but it will not get us the Carabao Cup title back.
“We are here, we were here last season in the FA Cup Final in a game that means an unbelievable lot for us because it is the FA Cup, the most prestigious and most traditional cup in the world maybe and played at Wembley, so there are not a lot of bigger games to be a part of.
“That is why we are grateful and we will be well prepared because we play against one of the strongest teams in the world.
“It will be another hard fight, given the quality and run of form of Liverpool. It will be unbelievably difficult to beat them, but this is what a cup final is all about.”
