Manchester United laonee Mason Greenwood has won Getafe Player of the Season following his standout campaign with the LaLiga club.
The out-of-favor Man United winger reached the peak of his career with the Azulones after completing a short-term loan move to the club.
After his loan switch to the Madrid-based outfit, Greenwood made his debut for the club on September 17, 2023, in a 3-2 LaLiga win over Osasuna.
He would go on to reach his best career tally in a single season by scoring 8 goals with 6 assists in 33 LaLiga appearances.
Coupled with spates of individual brilliant performances for the club, he was nominated for Getafe Player of the Season alongside one of the club’s high-performing players Mayoral.
Greenwood had been Getafe fans’ favorite. He was warmly received, winning the hearts of the fans from the start. His show-stopping performance and on-field heroics cemented the bond, hence he was set to win the club’s Player Of The Season Award.
With a maximum number of votes from the fans, the United forward has been confirmed winner of the award. The laurel is his major individual award after he returned to action from his 18-month exile.
Recall the 22-year-old battled charges of assault and controlling behavior in 2022 which led to his suspension from club and international football.
He was arrested and prosecuted but the charges were dropped as witnesses to the case withdrew. Manchester United refused to reintegrate him into the club’s first team, choosing to loan him to Getafe to restart his career.
In his short spell with the LaLiga outfit, the former England international has successfully breathed life back into his career and has been linked to top clubs in Europe.
His Player of The Season Award by Getafe caps what has been his prolific comeback to top-level football.
