Following his loan move to Getafe, Mason Greenwood is set for a return to Football Manager, and this is based on information from the makers of the video game series.

Greenwood has been out of action since January 22, 2022, but he is set for a return to action in Spain.

Mason Greenwood was charged in January 2022, over allegations of rape, assault, coercive and controlling behavior, and he was subsequently suspended by Manchester United.

However, those charges were dropped in February 2023, due to lack of cooperation from the indicting party.

After the charges were dropped, Manchester United put out a statement that they were also commencing an “internal investigation” on the matter.

Manchester United statement on Greenwood

Following months of internal investigation, the Old Trafford club put out a statement revealing that it had concluded its investigation in August 2023.

Manchester United stated that after examining all available evidence, Mason Greenwood didn’t no commit the offense he was indicted for.

The club wrote: “Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged.”

They also added that Mason Greenwood will kick-start his career away from Manchester United, and they will help the Englishman to achieve that.

Manchester United stated: “It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”

That statement was met with mixed reaction, as despite some being happy that the Old Trafford club were getting rid of him, others were concerned over the wording of the statement.

They expressed that if the evidence didn’t show the youngster was guilty of the charges, then what was the rationale of the club to discard him.

However, Mason Greenwood is still a Manchester United player, and it is unknown what the future holds.

They said: “Players or officials serving indefinite suspensions from football, for any reason, are removed from Football Manager at the first opportunity.”

Sports Interactive also added that such players are reintegrated into the game when such suspensions are lifted.

Mason Greenwood has received a fanfare welcome at Getafe, and he could make his debut against Osasuna on September 17, 2023.

The 21-year-old’s loan deal with the Geta Azulones runs until June 30, 2024, but there is a break clause in his deal, which can be activated by Getafe if he fails to deliver for the club.
