The match between Getafe and Deportivo Alaves was temporarily suspended due to the horrible chants directed towards Mason Greenwood.
The England international participated in the game for 90 minutes as Getafe lost to Deportivo Alaves.
In the match, a horrible situation occurred, which prompted the referee, Jorge Figueroa, to temporarily suspend the game between Getafe and Deportivo in the 18th minute.
This was because the Alaves fans were chanting “Greenwood die.” When the game stopped in the 18th minute, the club had to warn the fans over the chants before the chants drastically reduced.
Getafe are yet to make a formal complaint to the La Liga hierarchy. It is undefined whether Deportivo Alaves will be punished for the misconduct of their fans.
Getafe lost to Deportivo Alaves 1-0, and they currently sit in 11th place on the La Liga table.
The Manchester United loanee has been subjected to frequent abuse from the opposite fans since his move to Getafe in the September transfer window.
Chants calling for Greenwood to Die had been previously sung by Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao fans in September 2023, leading to Getafe releasing a statement expressing total disapproval of the horrible chants.
The 22-year-old winger who is currently on loan with Getafe, scored ten goals and created six assists in all competitions for the Getafe side.
Greenwood could play the last Getafe game of the season against Mallorca, even though the club are interested in extending his loan deal beyond next season.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are looking forward to selling the winger in the transfer window.
Greenwood’s career at Manchester United was cut short after the winger was accused of attempted rape, persistent control, and assault on his wife, Harriet Robson.
The Getafe winger denied those allegations and had been excessively supported by the Getafe fans who enjoy the English star’s performances on the pitch.
