Mason Greenwood, 21, has been offered a recovery lane back to football by Getafe and the club’s coach promised to make the player better.

The deal was announced just few minutes before the summer transfer window deadline closed on Friday.

Manchester United will not be paid any fee for the loan and they are said to cover most part of his £75,000-a-week wage during his time in Spain.

The Red Devils released a statement saying: “The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.”

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

Getafe on the other hand released a statement through their spokesman saying: “We do not want to enter the investigation.”

“This guy has been declared innocent, judged, he is innocent like you or me. The moment we see that he is innocent we have no more to say.”

Mason Greenwood is likely not make his debut for Getafe until September 17, when the they host Osasuna.

This is coming after United revealed last week that Greenwood had “mutually agreed” to leave the club following an internal probe into his arrest.

Greenwood still has two years left to run with the option of a further 12 months had the club wanted to take it up.

Mason Greenwood, 21, was arrested in January 2022 amid allegations surrounding sexual assault and attempted rape.

The Englishman was later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault involving actual bodily harm.

His girlfriend Harriet Robson took to her Instagram and posted evidence of these allegations.

The forward who has made one appearance for England, was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club within hours after the allegations surfaced online.

However, in February 2023, charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped against the Manchester United footballer.

Why Did Greenwood Leave Manchester United?

Manchester United let Greenwood go on leave after they concluded their internal investigation over rape allegations which was carried out in 6 months.

The Red Devils released a statement in August saying: “Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offenses in respect of which he was originally charged.”

Mason Greenwood, whose contract at United was meant to expire in 2025, scored 35 goals in 129 games for the club since his debut in 2019 aged 17.

However, the Englishman has not played at the club since he was arrested in October 2022 after he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, assault, and actual bodily harm.

The player also saw his sponsorship with Nike discontinued and he was subsequently removed from EA sports squads on FIFA 22 game.

The charges against Mason Greenwood were dropped in February 2023 and the Crown Prosecution Service revealed that key witnesses had withdrawn and the new evidence was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.

Manchester United commenced an internal investigation on the player who was previously dubbed as one of the most valuable players in Europe’s top five leagues.

After United concluded their investigation, they revealed that: “All those involved, including Mason, recognize the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.”

“It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford.”
