Getafe have completed the signing of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United on a season-long loan deal.

Greenwood’s loan deal runs until June 30, 2024, and it is an avenue for the attacker to build back his beleaguered career.

Confirming the arrival of Mason Greenwood to Getafe, the Spanish La Liga club put out a statement on their website which reads:

“Getafe Football Club has reached an agreement with Manchester United for the arrival of Mason Greenwood on loan for one season.”

The Englishman last featured in a competitive encounter on January 22, 2022, in a 1-0 win for Manchester United over West Ham United.

Greenwood has battled issues regarding allegations of sexual assault, bodily harm, and coercive behavior, but was freed in February 2023.

Mason Greenwood becomes the 10th signing for Getafe this summer, having signed Omar Alderete, Gastón Álvarez, and Portu.

The Azulones also signed Choco Lozano, and Sergi Altimira, on a free transfer, while Óscar Rodríguez, José Ángel Carmona, Diego Rico, and Daniel Fuzato joined the club on loan.

Manchester United statement on Mason Greenwood departure

Excerpt from a statement released by Manchester United concerning the departure of Mason Greenwood reads:

“The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”

The Old Trafford club revealed in September that the forward will leave the club by mutual agreement, following six months of internal investigation.

Despite the Red Devils apparently bidding bye-bye to Mason Greenwood, some Manchester United supporters believe that the attacker might still play for the club in the future.

Some believe that if Greenwood does achieve great heights at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, the Red Devils will have no choice but to bring him back.

The 21-year-old scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists in 139 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions.

Getafe new signing, Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has been at Manchester United since the age of 6, and he was developing brilliantly until his career became shaky due to the allegations leveled against him.

He made his debut for the Old Trafford club on March 6, 2019, in a famous 1-3 victory for the Red Devils over Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League.

Greenwood has ever since eschewed his brilliance for Manchester United, with many even touting him to become one of the best in the world.

The Yorkshire-born man now has the golden opportunity to get his career back on track and into the limelight.

Getafe faithfuls will be hoping that Mason Greenwood can eschew the brilliance which he showed at Manchester United before the allegations.
