Former football star turned entrepreneur, anti-racism, and anti-discrimination campaigner, Marvin Morgan died at the age of 38-year-old. Since his death was announced on December 6, 2021, some top Premier League footballers have been paying tributes to him.

Though Marvin Morgan did not play football to the Premier League level, he has a very close relationship with some top Premier League players because of his fashion brand, Fresh Ego Kid.

A look at Marvin Morgan’s football career:

Marvin Morgan is an African-American football star born in Manchester on 13 April 1983. He started his professional football career at Wealdstone in 2000.

From there, he had spells at 16 other non-league clubs including Aldershot Town, Plymouth Argyle, Havant & Waterlooville, Beaconsfield Town, and Hornchurch.

Marvin Morgan ended his professional football career at Potters Bar Town in 2020 after scoring over 133 career goals in over 499 appearances in all competitions.

What killed Marvin Morgan?

At the time of publishing this report, the cause of Marvin Morgan’s death has not been made known. However, he was on medication to treat cavernoma – a cluster of abnormal blood vessels that are usually found in the brain or spinal cord.

This health condition which the former footballer was diagnosed with and made public in 2018, could cause seizures, strokes, and in the worst cases, premature death.

In an interview he granted in 2018, Marvin Morgan revealed that there was a point he collapsed twice a day while training after suffering a night seizure that caused hemorrhaging.

“I am on medication for the rest of my life and I have something called a cavernoma. It is something to do with blood vessels in the brain and I have nocturnal seizures”, the late footballer said at the time.

Marvin Morgan was once quoted as saying that he was bored being a footballer, hence, he had to fill his spare time with something else.

That was what took him into fashion designing and led him to establish Fresh Ego Kid, a streetwear fashion brand.

He established the Fresh Ego Kid when he was playing for Shrewsbury Town FC between 2011 and 2013.

The fashion brand has been a huge success among some top Premier League players including: Harry Maguire, Romelu Lukaku, Kieran Trippier, Raheem Sterling, Smith Rowe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Dele Alli.

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and the son of former England captain, David Beckham’s son Cruz have been seen wearing the brand.

Some top Premier League players have paid tribute to Marvin Morgan via their various social media platforms.

Aston Villa defender Ashley Young tweeted: “Sorry to hear the sad sad news this morning about Marv. I’m lost for words, to think we were just joking the other week. RIP BRO.”

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku wrote on Instagram: “This is some s*** news man… RIP my brother you will be missed.”

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice tweeted: “One of the cleanest hearted, happy, loving people you could meet! Shocked, RIP Marvin Morgan.”

Arsenal star, Ainsley Maitland-Niles took to his Instagram page to share a picture of himself posing with the late footballer. In the caption, he wrote: “Rest in perfect peace. You will be loved and missed forever.”

While Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi wrote via Instagram story: “Hearing this news this morning is a tragedy!! RIP brother, you’ll be truly missed.”

Marvin Morgan has a football club known as Fresh Ego FC which he organized to fight against discrimination especially racism in football.

In November 2021, Arsenal stars, Smith-Rowe and Maitland-Niles showed up to support the club’s campaign for change.

The Instagram page of the club shared a picture of the two Arsenal stars posing with Morgan in November. In the caption, the club wrote: “Thank you Smith-Rowe and Maitland-Niles for supporting our causes. See you at the end of the season.”
