Olympique Marseille has joined Lille in a heated race to signing Rangers FC striker Alfredo Morelos.

French outlet Le10Sport claims that Marseille is keen on snapping up the Colombian, however, would only take him on a loan deal.

The striker has been the subject of transfer speculations from the French Ligue 1 with Lille rumored interested in his services. It’s reported that Lille had even seen four offers turned down for the striker.

Interest in the 24-year-old, however, appears to have stirred up controversy in the Ranger’s squad.

The striker who has made his decision to quit the Scottish side known was dropped in their last game against Kilmarnock after head coach Steven Gerrard admitted he wasn’t in the right frame of mind following the transfer interests.

Gerrard said: “I think you guys will decide how big a decision it was but for me, it was pretty simple.“We need players who work hard every single day and who are ready and focused for the challenges coming up.
“If I see people who are not focused or who have taken their eye off the ball and are not really, really hungry to get this football club results, I have to make easy decisions and Alfredo made it easy for me this week.“I’ve picked the players that are focused.“I want players who are hungry and want to be here.“I need to see that on a daily basis, players who want to give everything for the shirt.”

Olympique Marseille boss Andre Vilas Boas wants to add firepower to his squad with another striker this summer, following their qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Marseille, however, wants to make the Morelos deal a temporary one, as they are financially hit due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on football worldwide.

Rangers are reportedly only willing to release the Colombian should their £20 million asking price be met.
