Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has withdrawn from England 2024 Euro qualifiers squad after picking a knock in the FA Cup.
Marcus Rashford withdrawal from the squad has dealt a big blow to Gareth Southgate ahead of England’s double header during the international break.
The Three Lions are set to begin their journey to Euros 2024 against Italy and Ukraine during the international break.
Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Harry Kane were among Gareth Southgate’s 22-man squad called for the games.
Now, Marcus Rashford has withdrawn from the squad after he picked up a knock in Manchester United’s last game before the break.
The Red Devils clashed with Fulham in the FA Cup quarterfinal before the international break.
Fulham imploded with three red cards in a space of a minute after taking the lead against Manchester United early in the second half.
Mitrovic gave the visitors the lead in the 50th minute before he and one of his teammates were issued a straight red card in the game.
After the red cards, Manchester United fired a quickfire double to turn the game on its head.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring after converting a spot-kick, while Marcel Sabitzer doubled the lead two minutes after.
Late in the game, Fernandez hit a stoppage-time goal to bag his brace and seal the win.
However, the victory came at a cost of an injury challenge for the Red Devils. Marcus Rashford was injured in the 50th minute in the build-up to Mitrovic’s opener.
The prolific forward picked up a hamstring injury in the game and forged on until the 83rd minute when he was subbed off for Fred.
After the injury, the FA confirmed Marcus Rashford would not be available for the Three Lions in the double header clash against Italy and Ukraine during the international break.
As of the time of filing this report, the extent of Marcus Rashford’s injury is yet to be ascertained but it has been confirmed he will not be available for selection after the knock.
Marcus Rashford has been prolific for Manchester United this season. He has scored 30 goals for the club in all competitions this season and was among Gareth Southgate’s top choice for England Euros 2024 qualifiers.
Marcus Rashford has 15 goals in his 51 appearances for England national team.
Manchester United confirmed the withdrawal in a club statement but have hope Rashford would return to full action when the Premier League returns in April.
