The manager of Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick has compared the current form of Marcus Rashford to the initial form of Jadon Sancho at the club.

Recall that Jadon Sancho joined Manchester United on July 23, 2021, for a transfer fee worth €85 million. When he first joined the Premier League club, he struggled to adapt to the club.

His initial struggle at the club opened him to a series of criticisms until he was able to pick up his form recently.

So far this season, Jadon Sancho has been able to make 29 appearances in all competitions in which he scored four goals and provide two assists.

Now that Sancho has picked up form, Marcus Rashford has slid into a poor run of form which has made him a subject of criticism.

Unlike Sancho that joined Manchester United in 2021, Marcus Rashford has been at the Premier League club throughout his football career.

The 24-year-old English left-winger is a product of Manchester United’s youth system. He gained promotion to the club’s senior team on January 1, 2016.

Since then, Rashford has been able to make 293 appearances in which he managed to score 93 goals and provided 58 assists.

But so far this season, the England international has managed to score just five goals and provided two assists in 22 games in all competitions.

Most fans of the club expect him to do more for the club especially now that Manchester United have been very inconsistent in the Premier League.

Also, most fans believe that Marcus Rashford’s form dropped as a result of the aftermath of the shoulder injury he suffered ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

Recall that after the European Championship in 2021, it was revealed that Rashford underwent surgery to treat his shoulder injury. Since he recovered from the injury, he has not been as consistent as he used to be.

Ahead of Manchester United Premier League game against Watford scheduled to kick off at 16:00 later today, February 26, coach Rangnick said: Rashford “is definitely not injured”.

“We have spoken a lot about Marcus in the last couple of weeks. I am pretty sure he is not happy with his performance right now but it doesn’t help if we discuss that every week and talk about our thoughts about what it might be”, the coach added.

“Right now he is trying to find his best possible shape and performance and we just try to give him helping hands with everything we can.

“We show him video footage and speak with him regularly. In training he is in top form, that’s why I decided to play him.

“Now it’s about having that transformation from training performance to the competition in the league. This is the next step he has to take.

“We had a very similar situation with Jadon six or seven weeks ago. He is the best example of what can happen. It’s the player himself who has to perform and get the best out of his performance.”

Marcus Rashford’s contract with Manchester United will expire on June 30, 2023. While the contract of Jadon Sancho will expire on June 30, 2026.
