The 26-year-old Spanish right-winger who has been at Real Madrid since July 1, 2015, from RCD Mallorca has less than 14 months before his current contract expires.
Real Madrid has been trying to extend his stay at the club but the Spanish footballer is reportedly trying not to rush into a new deal with the club.
Recently, reports surfaced that Real Madrid has gone as far as offering Marco Asensio a new deal that would earn him around €5 million per year but the football star is yet to accept the offer.
Asensio’s indecision to sign the new deal has sparked the speculation that the football star plans to leave Real Madrid this coming summer.
The Spanish footballer added fuel to the speculation when he decided to spend his break in Italy amid rumors that AC Milan are strongly interested in him.
According to a report by Sportmediaset, Marco Asensio’s agent, Horacio Gaggioli has confirmed that AC Milan are interested in the right-winger. He also confirmed that English clubs including Arsenal had shown interest in Marco Asensio.
“We are proud of Milan’s interest,” the agent said. “The Rossoneri [Milan] are an option even if there are offers from a couple of English clubs, including Arsenal. We are ready to evaluate every option.”
The dynamics of the potential exit of Marco Asensio from Real Madrid:
Marco Asensio is still officially the player of Real Madrid at least until June 30, 2023. If the right-winger and his agent try to leave Real Madrid this summer, the Spanish giants have every right to block the move.
As it stands, the Spanish giants can only allow the footballer to exit the club before the expiration of his contract if they can sign Paris Saint Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe.
Recall that Real Madrid has been doing all they can to bring the French striker to Bernabeu but PSG has been trying to frustrate the move.
Mbappe’s contract with PSG will expire on June 30, 2022, which means that the Frenchman could join Madrid on a free transfer from July 1 this year.
Once that happens, Marco Asensio who has not been playing as regularly as he wishes would find it more difficult to have regular game time at Real Madrid.
Hence, he would have to leave for a club where he can play more regularly. But he can not leave Real Madrid for a club that is not playing in the UEFA Champions League.
If Marco Asensio decides to make UEFA Champions League football a determinant of his next move, he would likely join AC Milan that are currently occupying the top spot in the Italian Serie A table instead of joining Arsenal which are currently occupying the 5th spot in the Premier League.
Marco Asensio’s stats
So far this season, Marco Asensio has played 34 games in all competitions for Real Madrid in which he scored 10 goals and provided one assist.
The winger who made his international debut on May 29, 2016, has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Spain’s national team in which he scored just a goal.
His contract with Real Madrid will expire on June 30, 2023, and his current transfer market value is €40 million.
