Real Madrid forward, Marco Asensio, has decided to stay at the Spanish club until his contract expires on June 30, 2023. The Spanish footballer confirmed this while on international break.

Asensio, who has been in and out of the Spanish team, has not been able to nail a starting spot under Carlo Ancelotti since he took over as Madrid’s manager in 2021. This has raised so many doubts and questions concerning his future at the Spanish club.

The 26-year-old Spain international has been linked to different clubs over the past few years despite scoring double figures in goals for Real Madrid across all competitions this season. He has been reported to be among the players who might likely take the exit door out of the club this summer.

Although he has shown flashes of brilliance at times, being consistent coupled with the injuries he has suffered, has proved a stumbling block for him reaching his full potential since joining Real Madrid from Mallorca back in 2014.

The uncertainty surrounding his future has prompted top European clubs to start monitoring him. The likes of Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan have been in the news recently. It appears both clubs are interested in signing him as a free agent when his contract expires in 2023, rather than making a move for him this summer.

Manchester United has been strongly linked to him, with news from Spanish outlets claiming that his agent, Jorge Mendes, offered him to the English club. The Red Devils, who are actively in pursuit of the right-winger, might fancy a move for him due to the inconsistent performances of their forwards lately, and also with Mason Greenwood, who is out for now due to misconduct.

Recently Marco Asensio was interviewed by MARCA where he said “I am focused on the national team. When this concentration is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. Renew or leave Real Madrid? I think there are three possibilities, there is also the option to stay and fulfill my contract year.

“My future does not have to depend on whether or not I will have a place in the next World Cup”.

The Los Blancos are still keen on offering him a new deal. But right now, he’s more interested in seeing out his contract first, before he would decide on what to do next.

The 26-year-old forward currently has a market valuation of €27 million.
