Maradona: Relatives of football legend fight over fortune worth £37m

    Reports have emerged that the relatives of football icon, Diego Maradona are battling over his fortune that is valued at £37m.

    There have been one or more controversies since the death of the Argentine legend over a week ago.

    There have been alleged love-children also laying claim to the fortune as his wealth is being divided. Some children have been asking for DNA to prove that they were fathered by the Argentine legend. The Sun reports 16 individuals are eyeing their share.

    The football world was sent to mourning after the the Argentina legend died aged 60 from a heart attack last month.

    However, Maradona failed to leave a will. This has made a host of people come forward and attempt to pick up what he left behind.

    Maradona officially had five children who have staked their claims in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires. However, seven more alleged love-children, as well as four of Maradona’s five sisters, have all come forward.

    According to reports, Maradona signed a will in 2012 but scrapped it four years later.

    “With no will, children close to Maradona and some he has never met will all be able to claim an equal share of his fortune.

    “That is clearly unacceptable to children who were part of his life for years and feel they have been cheated,” a source said :

    “The battle for Maradona’s money won’t just be contested — it will be a World Cup,” said another.

    Maradona’s fortunes according to court papers includes cash in Switzerland, Dubai and Buenos Aires as well as property dotted throughout the world.

    The property also includes a fleet of luxury vehicles accounted for as have funds from ad contracts with big brands ­such as Puma and Coca-Cola.

    It could be recalled that Napoli, where Maradona enjoyed his greatest success stories at club level, have renamed their stadium after the Argentine.

    But he will forever be remembered for his 1986 World Cup triumph which included the infamous Hand of God goal.
