Manchester United winger Antony will remain on indefinite leave despite flying back into the UK on Tuesday night, September 26.
The Brazilian winger has agreed to meet with Greater Manchester Police to address allegations of assault made by his former girlfriend.
Gabriela Cavallin, Anthony’s ex-partner, claims to have been physically attacked by him on multiple occasions both in Manchester and Brazil.
One of the alleged attacks occurred at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Manchester in January, where she stated that Anthony headbutted and punched her, resulting in damage to a breast implant while she was 16 weeks pregnant with their child.
Meanwhile, last week, Cavallin expressed her deep emotions in a tribute to the baby she tragically lost with the footballer.
The 22-year-old DJ shared in an Instagram story that she feels “stronger” following a miscarriage that occurred a little over a year ago.
This heartfelt message from Gabriela came shortly after her chauffeur spoke to Brazilian authorities regarding the investigation into the winger’s alleged domestic abuse.
In our previous report, the social media influencer allegedly made a phone call to her former driver, claiming that “Antony is hitting me,” according to Extra.
The allegations were initially reported by Cavallini in Sao Paulo back in June, and a comprehensive legal document has since been submitted to GMP.
Cavallin, who had an on-and-off relationship with the Brazil World Cup player for two years, also revealed that she lived with him in Amsterdam during his time at Ajax.
And now, Antony, who vehemently denies the accusations, has been placed on an indefinite leave of absence by Manchester United.
On September 10, the Old Trafford club announced that the player would be given time off on full pay to focus on clearing his name.
Antony, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, stated, “I have reached an agreement with Manchester United to take a leave of absence while I address the allegations against me.”
“This decision was made mutually to avoid distractions for my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club.”
The Brazilian star insisted he’s innocent of all the charges filed against him and vowed to clear his name while also promising to cooperate with the Police.
He added: “I want to emphasize that I am innocent of the accusations made against me. I am committed to fully cooperating with the police to uncover the truth. I am hopeful to resume playing as soon as possible.”
It should be noted that the winger was excluded from the Brazilian national team during the recent international break.
What’s next for Antony?
Authorities in Brazil recently permitted him to return to England as he fully complied with their investigation and they have no further inquiries for him.
As it stands, Antony has now willingly agreed to be questioned by the Greater Manchester Police and has consented to surrender his phone for inspection.
