Manchester United is already looking to release over 10 players at the end of the season to make space for new players for incoming coach Erik Ten Hag.

The Red Devils have had a poor season, missing out on the top four and a place in the Champions League for next season.

A number of players are set to leave, with the Manchester Evening News estimating that the number of players released will be in the double digits across all age groups.

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, and Edinson Cavani, as well as Lee Grant, are all out of contract next month.

Despite United’s announcement that his final contract extension will keep him at Old Trafford until 2023, Matic confirmed his departure last month.

In actuality, such would have been the case if he had elected to activate the option for an extra year, which he did not.

The first team isn’t the only one undergoing major changes in the coming months.

At the academy level, Ondrej Mastny, Reece Devine, Charlie Wellens, and Connor Stanley, as well as strikers D’Mani Mellor and Mateo Mejia, are all out of contract.

In the summer, Stanley will join an unknown new club, while the rest of the team’s future is uncertain.

A decision must also be made on Dylan Levitt, who earned his United debut in the Europa League against FC Astana in 2019.

Levitt plays for Wales and is currently on loan with Dundee United. On Sunday, he was crowned the Scottish Premiership’s Fans’ Player of the Year.

Erik ten Hag was named United’s new manager last month, and he finished his career at Ajax by winning the Eredivise.

He’s called off his contract with the Dutch giants six weeks early so he can come back to work.

He’ll be in attendance at Selhurst Park for United’s final game of the season, which is away at Crystal Palace.

During his time at Ajax, Ten Hag was noted for his work with younger players, especially Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.

Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-1 to win the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday.

Alejandro Garnacho, who has already made his first-team debut this season, scored twice in the game.

Alvaro Fernandez also came off the bench in United’s most recent match, a 4-0 loss to Brighton.
