Manchester United and Liverpool both started the season in a disappointing mode, with United losing to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, while Liverpool conceded first to Fulham and Crystal Palace and finished up with a pair of draws in their first two matches.

After the disappointment of an opening defeat to Brighton, the Red Devils reached a new low with a terrible humiliation at Brentford last time out. United conceded four goals inside the opening 35 minutes of a league game for the first time in Premier League history, with David de Gea’s awful goalkeeping in the game.

The Erik ten Hag era has gotten off to a rough start at Old Trafford as it’s a dreadful start for the Manchester United manager, with his side getting at the bottom of the Premier League for the first time in three decades.

Likewise, Liverpool lost early grounds in the Premier League title race this season, with successive draws from their first two games, giving Manchester City the chance to build a four-point advantage.

After a poor performance against Fulham in their opening game, Liverpool was again out of sorts as Crystal Palace held the Reds to a draw on Monday evening. Wilfried Zaha’s goal on the counter gave the Eagles a lead to protect, with the task of Jurgen Klopp’s side not helped by Darwin Nunez’s moment of rash folly.

The Summer signing Darwin Nunez will be out for the next three games through suspension after being sent off for headbutting Joachim Andersen during Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

With the two teams desperate for three points since none have secured a win when the league started, the question is, will Liverpool take care of business as they travel to Old Trafford? Or can Manchester United get back on track with a win at home?

As the two prestigious English clubs meet next week Monday, in a match which is renowned as one of the biggest rivalries in not only English football, but the entire world at large, it’s no doubt that the game between the two champions will be a tough battle as both teams fight for their first three points this season to level up in the league table; currently, Manchester United rank 20th, while Liverpool holds 12th position.

Manchester United and Liverpool have had a total of two hundred and nine games together. United lead in the head-to-head record with eighty-one wins, while Liverpool have seventy victories; the remaining fifty-eight matches finished in draws.

Although, Erik ten Hag’s men won their first pre-season friendly with a 4-0 victory against Jurgen Klopp’s side, however,
Liverpool produced a ruthless performance last season to thrash Manchester United 4-0 at Anfield on the 19th of April, following up on their 5-0 away victory at Old Trafford on the 2nd of May, 2022.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring after five minutes, as the Colombian swept home from Mohamed Salah’s pass. Salah then got in on the act and doubled the lead before half-time, latching onto Sadio Mane’s superb assist to fire home.

Mane made it three as Liverpool’s forward line cut apart the visitors, before Salah completed the rout with his second of the game five minutes from time.

Klopp’s side moved to the top of the division with the win and became the first team to score at least eight Premier League goals against the Red Devils in a single season.

Team news ahead of Monday Night’s Match

Measuring their performances recently, Liverpool is expected to defeat Manchester United in their next match on Monday.

On Manchester United’s preparedness, Ten Hag, United manager has provided an early boost as he informed united fans that Anthony Martial has returned to training at Carrington.

Martial missed out on the first two games of the season against Brighton and Brentford with a hamstring injury.
It remains to be seen whether Martial will feature in the Monday night game, but Victor Lindelof is not yet ready for training.

Ten Hag said: “Victor has not returned to the training pitch but the good news is that Anthony Martial is back in training with the team,”.

This circumstance, however, lays heavy duty on Cristiano Ronaldo as he is expected to lead the line once again despite his desire to leave United, all eyes and hopes are on the Portuguese international to steer the team to victory in the match against Liverpool on Monday.

In the other hand, the Merseysiders will also be missing some of their key players in the match against United. Liverpool will be without forward Darwin Nunez, who is serving the first part of a three-match ban for violent conduct after headbutting Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen in Monday night’s 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino is in line for a return up front, with Klopp revealing in his press statement that the Brazilian had been “training completely normally”. Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson came on as substitutes against Palace, but the visitors still have several injury concerns, with their manager adding that “nobody else came back during the week”, therefore, they will also miss the match.

Among the players who will be left behind is defender Joel Matip who was said by Klopp to be out for two weeks with a muscle strain.

Manchester United and Liverpool will both be missing out on some of their key players in their next match as a result of injury or ban.

As the two rivals still have plenty of time to prepare for Monday night’s showdown at Old Trafford which will no doubt be great match football lovers wouldn’t want to miss, I’ll rather say the game is likely to end in a draw as both clubs will not take it lightly with each other, so, they’d rather share the cake.
