Paris Saint-Germain have pulled off a major transfer coup by securing the signing of Benfica’s highly-rated midfielder Joao Neves.

The Ligue 1 club made this bold move for the Portuguese defensive midfielder despite strong interest from Manchester United earlier in the summer.

Meanwhile, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday, July 31 that Neves will be joining the French giants in a deal worth a potential €70 million.

Romano’s famous ‘Here We Go’ confirmation indicates that the move is all but complete, with Neves set to continue his development at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

As part of the deal with PSG, midfielder Renato Sanches is expected to move in the opposite direction on loan.

Meanwhile, the Italian transfer expert has verified the deal with his latest post stating that Neves will undergo his medicals in Paris today, August 1.

Romano wrote on his X page: “Joao Neves, in Paris today with medical tests booked as new Paris Saint-Germain player.”

“Contract signing to follow after €60m plus €10m add-ons package deal agreed with Benfica.”

Benfica rejected Manchester United offer for Joao Neves

This move comes after Benfica rejected United’s advances for the 19-year-old, demanding his release clause of €120 million.

It is understood that INEOS, who are in charge of transfers at Old Trafford for the first time, were unwilling to meet Benfica’s valuation for a player with limited senior experience.

Instead, they have turned their attention to other targets in different positions.

The 19-year-old Portuguese talented midfielder is sought after by top clubs like Manchester United and PSG for a good reason.

His well-rounded skills in possession, including precise passing, progressive play, and impressive dribbling abilities, make him a valuable asset on the field.

Additionally, his prowess in winning back the ball through tackles, interceptions, and blocks only adds to his appeal as a complete midfielder.

Manchester United aim for PSG’s midfielder Manuel Ugarte

United’s recruitment team may be feeling a sense of regret as they passed up a talented 19-year-old who could have filled a crucial position in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

However, negotiations with PSG for midfielder Manuel Ugarte continue, with the Ligue 1 side demanding a steep price of up to €70 million.

Despite Manchester United’s reluctance to meet this asking price, PSG’s eagerness to sell and their already secured replacement for Ugarte may lead to a more favorable compromise in negotiations.

Joao Neves is a Portuguese professional footballer who last played as a defensive midfielder for Primeira Liga club Benfica and also represents Portugal national team.
