Manchester United have made a £93 million bid for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport.
This season, the Nigerian international has made 31 appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals and assisting on six occasions. Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Arsenal have taken notice of his impressive goal-scoring record.
The Gunners have also expressed an interest in the striker after keeping tabs on him. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now at Barcelona, manager Mikel Arteta could use his attacking prowess to help his team score more goals.
The 23-year-old striker has a contract with Napoli that runs until 2025, and the club wants to make the most of the interest he has generated. The Red Devils are willing to pay £93 million for the striker.
This summer, the Red Devils will go through a transition period, with new United manager Erik ten Hag set to take over.
Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t getting any younger, and Edinson Cavani is expected to leave the club this summer. The duo was always going to be a temporary fix for United because of their age.
With Marcus Rashford’s future in the starting XI uncertain and Jesse Lingard also expected to leave this summer, Osimhen’s inclusion could appear to be a good fit at the Theatre of Dreams. Instead of the manager switching around attacking players in makeshift positions, most fans would prefer to see a young, and confident striker lead the line for years to come.
The club would prefer not to overspend this summer, especially given their interest in Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona, who could cost £65 million. The manager intends to make changes in order to compete and win titles while avoiding excessive transfer spending.
The club’s interest in Osimhen, however, does not appear out of place, given the youngster’s high profile. The Nigerian international is a strong striker who also plays well in possession.
Given his age and experience, any potential suitors can rest assured that he will continue to improve in the coming years. We can only hope to see him play at his best in a Man United shirt, but only time will tell.
