Manchester United’s Brazilian winger Antony took to Instagram to express his gratitude and love for his two children, Lorenzo and Lavinne, amidst ongoing controversy surrounding his personal life.
Antony had his two children with his girlfriend, Rosilene Silva, whom he has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with since his youth team days at Sao Paulo.
The couple, whom will be getting married soon welcomed son Lorenzo in 2019 and daughter Lavinne earlier this year.
Antony shared a heartfelt message, saying, “Lorenzo and Lavinne! My children. Proud to be your daddy!! Happy day.” The post highlighted the joy his children bring to his life.
What’s the controversy surrounding Antony?
Despite his happy family life, Antony faced allegations of domestic violence from former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.
The 24-year-old United star’s former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, accused the Premier League star of domestic violence, threats, and bodily harm.
Gabriela Cavallin said: ‘‘I was really scared that I wouldn’t be able to get out of the house.”
“Antony locked the door and wouldn’t let me go out. I had my finger open, all hurt. He broke my things, took my passport.’
Cavallin filed a police report, including photos of injuries and threatening messages allegedly from Antony.
However, Antony denied the physical abuse allegations, acknowledging a tumultuous relationship with verbal altercations but no physical violence.
Antony said: ‘’My relationship with Ms Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offenses from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression.”
Meanwhile, the controversy led to his exclusion from Brazil’s national team squad for World Cup qualifiers last year.
Interestingly, the Brazilian Police have cleared Manchester United winger Antony of allegations of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin.
Antony’s Manchester United Career Stalls Under Erik Ten Hag
Brazilian international Antony has found himself relegated to the bench, making just two Premier League appearances this season.
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has opted for former academy players Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho over Antony, sparking speculation about the Brazilian’s future at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Manager Erik ten Hag explained Antony’s lack of playing time, saying: “That’s professional football, that’s top football. Those are the laws. You pick the team that you think has the most chance to win a game.”
Furthermore, the Dutch boss has emphasized the importance of competition among players, stating: “The players have to fight for their positions. You pick the 11 who have the best dynamic, the best chemistry.”
Meanwhile, Antony’s diminished role has raised eyebrows, particularly given his £85m transfer from Ajax to Manchester United in 2022.
Since his transfer to Old Trafford, he has scored 12 goals and created 5 assists in 86 appearances.
As Antony struggles to regain his starting spot, doubts emerge about his long-term prospects under Ten Hag’s management.
What’s next for Antony and Manchester United?
Antony featured in Manchester United’s last Premier League goalless draw encounter against Aston Villa when he came in as a substitute to replace Marcus Rashford in the 64th minute.
It looks like the Dutch boss might consider giving the Brazilian more play time and could feature in Manchester United’s next Premier League match against Brentford on Saturday, October 19.
