Lille centre back Leny Yoro has decided to move to Manchester United on a permanent deal.

The French defender signed a five-year contract with Manchester United, which expires on June 30, 2029, with an option of an extra year with the club.

The defender will become Manchester United’s second signing under INEOS management after the club signed Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

Manchester United agreed to a €62 million transfer fee with Lille. The defender will fly to Manchester for medical treatment.

A few weeks ago, Ligue 1 giant Lille accepted a €50 million bid from Manchester United for the player, but the final decision was left to Leny Yoro, who later liked the idea of playing for Manchester United.

The 6-foot-tall defender attracted huge interest from top football clubs in Europe. Real Madrid were mentioned as one of the teams interested in signing the player from Lille.

Yoro made his debut for Lille at the age of 16. He got selected in the Thiery Henry’s France provisional list for the 2024 Olympics men’s football tournament.

His arrival will drastically improve the Manchester United defence, which was below par in terms of performance last season.

Manchester United submitted two bids previously for Everton defender Jarrod Branthwaite. Everton rejected those bids with a demand of a fee that exceeds £75 million.

Manchester United are still negotiating with Bayern Munich on signing Dutch defender Matthijs De Ligt.

It was revealed that Manchester United are still interested in both De Ligt and Branthwaite, but they are likely to sign only one in order to save money to buy players for other positions.

Raphael Varane left Manchester United, and Victor Lindelof’s career is currently in doubt at Old Trafford, with his contract expiring on June 30, 2025.

Harry Maguire is another defender who is likely to leave Manchester United if the club sign another defender before the end of the transfer window.
