According to the Manchester Evening News, Mather still has another year left on his first contract with United, which is set to expire in June 2025.

However, the 19-year-old England talented winger has agreed to a three-year contract with the option to extend it for another year, keeping him at the club until June 2027.

Romano shared the exciting news on X, stating that Mather’s impressive performances for the under-18 side earned him a call-up to United’s Premier youth team.

Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Excl: Manchester United winger Samuel Mather has agreed to sign new long-term contract with the club.

“Understand the agreement will be valid until June 2027, three year deal with an option for further season.”

The club’s decision to tie down Mather to a long-term deal highlights their commitment to nurturing the young talent and securing a bright future for the talented winger at Manchester United.

He was rewarded with a call-up for United’s Premier Youth Side following an impressive beginning to the season for the under-18 side.

The England U19 international scored four goals in a single game last season against Norwich reserves in the Premier League 2 while also netting one more in PL 2 and one in the PL 2 playoffs against Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old came on as a substitute in the second half of the preseason match against Rangers last weekend.

He is hopeful that Ten Hag will bring him along for the club’s upcoming pre-season tour.

Sam Mather loan spell at Rochdale

The former FA Youth Cup champion was sent on a flexi-loan to Rochdale in the second half of the season in order to gain valuable experience playing with the senior team while still training at Carrington.

This unique loan system was developed by United to help young players like Mather develop in both environments.

Meanwhile, Mather’s time at Rochdale was successful, making 10 appearances and scoring two goals to contribute to the team’s strong finish to the season.
