The Red Devils suffered a shock 7-0 defeat at Anfield in what turned out to be their biggest Premier League defeat to Liverpool.

It was an embarrassing display coming as a shock to the thousands of United fans who thronged into Anfield for the game.

The club’s brilliant run so far this season ended with a disastrous defeat with questions raised on their Premier League title credentials.

Prior to the game, the Red Devils were tipped as a third force in the 2022/23 Premier League title race led by Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, talks about the Red Devils joining the bout paused on Sunday after the game against Liverpool.

Manchester United played second fiddle to Liverpool throughout the first half, but were well composed at the back and still retain their attacking threats.

Late in the first half, Gody Gakpo opened the scoring for Liverpool after Roberson tore apart the Red Devils’ defense with a killer through-ball behind for Gakpo.

Liverpool’s opener came just a minute after Casemiro mistimed his run before nodding home Fernandez’s freekick to give United the lead. The goal was ruled out for offside.

After the end of the first half, the Red Devils were expected to make a comeback but it was a total rout beyond imagination.

Shockingly, Manchester United struggled at Anfield with an underwhelming display that saw Liverpool score multiple goals in a dramatic fashion to grab their biggest-ever Premier League victory over Manchester United.

Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Gody Gakpo all registered their names On the scoresheet for Liverpool, including a late goal by Roberto Firmino, who is apparently facing Manchester United for the last time as Liverpool player after confirming he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The Reds capitulated Manchester United, scoring six more goals in the second half to demolish Erik Ten Hag’s long winning streak in the Premier League.

Speaking in a post-match press conference, Erik Ten Hag expressed his disappointment with the performance of the players.

He decried the instability and gross mistakes that saw the Red Devils gave away cheap goals while lacking a fighting spirit.

According to him, “11 players lost their heads against Liverpool” and the team was a shocking departure from the Manchester United he has built.

“You can lose a game but this way. Also, the second half was unprofessional. That is not Manchester United.

“It cannot happen. We have to talk about it. I saw eleven players losing their heads. This is not Manchester United,” Ten Hag fumed.

However, the Dutch tactician added he is hopeful the team would bounce back after the defeat and return to winning ways.

“Nevertheless, I know my players. They will bounce back from the defeat,” he added.

The Red Devils will play Southampton in their next Premier League game and will hope to return to winning ways when hosting the Saints at Old Trafford.
