Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson has sparked reactions after he saved a 65th-minute penalty to hand Nottingham Forest their first Premier League home win in 23 years.

Ahead of the clash, the London-based club led by former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes needed to avoid a second defeat in a row. Moyes had fallen in West Ham’s opening match against Manchester City, losing 2-0.

During the West Ham clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday, a first-half extra-time strike by Nigerian international Taiwo Awoniyi in the 45+2 minutes gave the home side a comfortable first-half lead against the visitors.

After Nottingham had gone up to take the lead against their Premier League rivals, West Ham pressed and mounted pressure to equalize all to no avail.

West Ham came into the second half of the match trying to find an early equalizer. They dominated possession and pressed in the opening minutes of the second half, but a resilient and classic defending by the host kept the visitors in disarray. The David Moyes-led team created few chances in the game but could not convert them.

A golden opportunity to equaliser surfaced in the 65th minute. Nottingham Forest has conceded a penalty with Declan Rice set to take the spot kick.

It was between Declan Rice and Dean Henderson to turn the game around. Rice fired a right-footed shot aiming at the bottom left. Henderson could read Rice’s movement. He quickly dived in the direction of the penalty and saved it comfortably, denying West Ham an equalizer. Nottingham Forest held onto the lead till the final whistle.

Dean Henderson’s penalty saved at the City Ground is a bit coincidental – coming a day after Manchester United pulled an awkward performance against Brentford. The Red Devils had suffered a shock 4-0 loss to Brentford, with David de Gea blaming himself for the match’s outcome. David de Gea was a culprit after the Red Devils made history by losing two first Premier League games in a row for the first time in 101years.

Dean Henderson is a Manchester United loanee who has struggled to make it to the Red Devils’ starting line-up. Since signing his first professional contract with the club in 2015, Henderson has been loaned to several clubs.

He has been on loan to Stockport County, Grimsby, and Sheffield United since his spell with Manchester United senior team in 2015. The 25-year-old has made just 13 appearances for the Old Trafford club in his seven years with the club. Nottingham Forest is the 4th club that Dean Henderson has joined on a loan deal.

Dean Henderson’s spectacular City Ground performance has sparked reactions among United fans, with many calling on the Red Devils to revisit their starting line-up. The 25-year-old England international has proved critics wrong by securing Nottingham Forest’s narrow 1-0 win.
