Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close tab on Marc Guehi as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire.
According to reports, the Red Devils are looking for a way to approach the England center-back when the transfer window reopens in January.
The former Chelsea academy player has been a crucial part of the Crystal Palace backline since he joined the Eagles in the summer of 2021.
The 23-year-old defender has scored five goals and registered one assist in 91 games for Crystal Palace in all competitions, while he has assisted the Eagles in keeping four clean sheets from seven Premier League appearances.
Before October international break, Crystal Palace played three consecutive matches against Man United, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham. Guehi played the full 90 minutes of those games.
The 23-year-old defender’s outstanding performances have not been overlooked by England national team head coach, Gareth Southgate as Guehi was included in both September matches against Ukraine and Scotland.
Meanwhile, the player has already earned six international caps since his debut in March 2022.
Marc Guehi has been recently linked with a move away from Selhurst Park during the summer transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were said to be interested in his services.
Arsenal and Tottenham stepped down from their pursuit of Guehi due to the £60 million price tag Crystal Palace placed on the defender because of his current contract that still stands until the summer of 2026.
The Eagles could be tested again in January as many reports claimed that Manchester United have now started monitoring the player’s situation in other to secure his signature.
The Old Trafford outfit has been going through a tough time since the start of the 2023/24 campaign due to the club’s injury crisis which has affected Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and right-back Luke Shaw.
Nevertheless, ten Hag still has Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans available in the defense line.
Maguire has been linked with a move away from the club while Evans may leave the club if his contract expires, and it is uncertain whether an extension will be handed to him.
In addition, Harry Maguire has been struggling since the beginning of the season, he has gone from being a club captain and regular starter to a weekly bench warmer.
Reports declared that he would look for an escape route from Old Trafford next year if he didn’t see regular playing time, having seen a possible move to West Ham United in the summer fail.
Therefore, Ten Hag will demand defensive reinforcement for the 2024 summer window but Crystal Palace might still demand a club-record amount for the defender.
Palace would not be required to receive offers in January either, but a different report has declared that Man United want to sign a new center-back in the middle of the season, having kept just three clean sheets in their first eleven outings of the new season in all competitions.
