Manchester United have always been a victim of brutal attacks from their former employees for paying zero attention to football. The club has always been regarded as one of the most successful team in the world after total dominance in the English Premier League but it seems all is not as perfect as it seems.
After the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, the team seemed to have fallen backward in terms of success. The last time Manchester United won the Champions League was 14 years ago.
Since Ferguson left, they have not won the Premier League, and the last time they won a trophy was six years ago. This downfall has been coupled with protests against the club’s owners, the Glazer family.
During the years, the club has also failed to back its managers, and no sporting directors were appointed, with the club’s former CEO Eddie Woodward dealing with transfers and players contracts.
Manchester United signed poor players who are allowed to feed on fat wages and appointed a puppet manager who will not come forward to criticize them.
Below are some of the Manchester United employees that had attacked the club before Ronaldo:
1. Angel Di Maria
The Juventus winger claimed that Manchester United signed him to sell shirts. The club signed Di Maria from Real Madrid during Louis Van Gaal’s first season as manager.
The winger regrets moving to Manchester United. Di Maria claimed he moved to Manchester United because of the money offered by the club; his wife criticized him for doing so.
In 27 appearances, the winger scored three goals and created ten assists in the Premier League before moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The 40-year-old AC Milan striker had a successful tenure at Manchester United, winning the Carabao Cup and Europa League in his first season under Jose Mourinho.
He came out to criticize Manchester United, stating that the structure is old school and he found a small mentality with the club.
Before leaving Manchester United, he made 53 appearances and scored 29 goals with ten assists and eight yellow cards in all competitions.
3. Jose Mourinho
The greatest manager of the post-Ferguson era In his first season, he ended in 6th place on the Premier League table, defeated Ajax in the Europa League, and won the Carabao Cup against Southampton.
In his second season, Manchester United failed to support the manager extensively. He claimed his greatest achievement as a manager was making it to second place on the Premier League table with the Manchester United team.
That same season, Manchester United got to the FA Cup final, which they lost to Chelsea after Phil Jones waited for Eden Hazard to enter the 18-yard box before making tackles.
In his three seasons at Manchester United, he was sacked by the club after losing 3-1 to Liverpool in the Premier League.
4. Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez signed for Manchester United from Arsenal. He couldn’t believe what he saw the first time at the club.
He asked his agent if it was very possible to tear up his contract and get him back to Arsenal after the first training. In 45 appearances, he scored five goals and recorded nine assists.
5. Eric Bailly
The Ivorian came out to criticize Manchester United for always playing English players. He told the press that the club doesn’t give everybody a chance.
Bailly had always been the third choice at Old Trafford. He had to always wait untill Harry Maguire is injured before he can play more often. Even as that, sometimes the club’s former managers trusted other players over him.
He is now a starter on loan at Olympic Marseille, and the loan spell is helping him to improve on all levels. In 113 appearances, he scored a goal and created two assists.
6. Louis Van Gaal
The manager was sacked after winning the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace, where Jesse Lingard scored the winning goal at Wembley.
After he left, he heavily criticized Manchester United, describing the side as a commercial club and not a football club. He also advised Erik Ten Hag not to join the Premier League giant due to the way it is being run by the Glazers.
Louis Van Gaal never had any of his preferred transfers in the team. He never achieved a lot during his time at Manchester United.
When Manchester United was in the market to sign Timber from Ajax, he came in and warned the player not to move to the club.
7. Ralf Rangnick
The German manager was appointed to see out Manchester United’s season after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
When he came to Manchester United, he claimed that the club needed surgery in order to catch up with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
The manager who left the club in the 6th position on the Premier League table last season with zero goal difference went ahead to claim the club executive blocked the approval of the purchase of three players during the January transfer window.
He also told the board that they need to sign at least 10 players next season to be on top again.
The club failed to yield to his advice, and he was let go after an initial agreement with the club that the manager would move to the executive level to help the team.
8. Cristiano Ronaldo
The 5 times ballon d’Or winner was in no mood to hide the truth about how the club is being run by the Glazer family. He claimed that there had been no development in terms of sporting activities within the club.
Ronaldo stated in an interview that since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, they have made zero progress. Also, since he left the club at the age of 20, they still have the same jacuzzi and training equipment.
Ronaldo told Piers Morgan that the Premier League giant is a marketing club and not a football club.
