Manchester City moved closer to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table after defeating Newcastle by two goals to nil.

Phil Foden, who returned recently from injury and scored against Bristol City in the FA Cup, continued with his fine form after scoring in the 15th minute of the match with Rodri providing the assist.

Newcastle should have defended better to stop Foden from scoring, but the English star is filled with tricks and brilliancy.

He beats three Newcastle players to put his team ahead.

Pep Guardiola seems impressed with the English star’s performance, and he took it upon himself to give him a chance.

Foden has now earned the manager’s trust with a nice performance against Newcastle United.

Following his goal against Newcastle today, Foden has established himself as the youngest player to reach 50 Premier League goals for Manchester City.

Newcastle got the chance of getting an equalizer but it was stopped by the in-form Nathan Ake.

The Dutch defender blocked Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff’s attempt on goal.

Newcastle couldn’t cope with Manchester City’s pressing, as they lost the ball countless times.

Kevin De Bruyne’s attempts were kept at bay with so many Newcastle bodies blocking his attempts.

Phil Foden could have netted a brace in another attempt a few minutes after his opening goal, but was blocked by one of Newcastle’s defenders Sven Botman.

In the 36th minute, Newcastle had another chance to score a goal against Manchester City with Callum Wilson but the English striker failed to connect with the loose ball.

Newcastle Joelinton was given a yellow card and will miss the next match. It was his 10th yellow card this season.

Newcastle had another chance to score, but Joelinton failed to connect with
    the ball.

That was the third clear chance for Newcastle but missed the opportunity, leaving Manchester City to push for the second goal with high intensity and beautiful ball possession.

Bernardo Silva dismissed Newcastle’s hopes of getting an equalizer with a goal in the 67th minute.

Erling Haaland, who had done little in the match, played a through ball to Silva, and the Portuguese wasted no time in scoring a beautiful goal.

Silva’s goal was the 1,000th Premier League goal for Manchester City at home.
In the 73rd minute, there was a little bit of fighting involving Grealish, Haaland, and some Newcastle United defenders.

Newcastle’s real threat on goal came in the 94th minute, but it was parried away by Ederson, who had nothing to worry about.

It was the 100th clean sheet for the Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson. Also, he is the third fastest goalkeeper to reach that mark.

What Next for Manchester City and Newcastle United

Manchester City will face Crystal Palace on March 11, 2023, at 6:30 p.m.

Crystal Palace have always been a difficult rival for the Cityzens.

However, Guardiola’s side wouldn’t want to drop points again this season in a bid to catch up with Arsenal, who are currently on top of the Premier League.

Newcastle, on the other hand, will welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to St. James Park on March 12, 2023.

The Champions League dream is slipping away, and manager Eddie Howe needs to start gathering points for the team.

However, the new owners would love Champions League football, and Howe’s mind is crucial to achieving that.
