Arsenal football club will pay a visit to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, October 17 at 17:30 to take on Manchester City in a Premier League match which promises to be a box-to-box encounter.

In today’s game, Arsenal football club would want to continue with the form they went into the Fifa international break with while Manchester City would want to follow a different path from their last two games.

The sight attraction of the match would be the coaches of the two sides – Pep Guardiola of Manchester City and Mikel Arteta of Arsenal. Arteta learned the art of coaching under Guardiola, hence the two Spanish tacticians understand a lot about each other.

Arteta has proven once in his meeting with Guardiola’s Manchester City that an apprentice can be better than the master as he has recorded a victory against his former master in the FA Cup semi-final on July 18, 2020. Arteta knocked out Guardiola 2-0 and went on to win the title.

Since the 2020-2021 Premier League season started, it has been extremely difficult for some of the top clubs in the league including Manchester City to get their rhythm.

In the case of Manchester City, the club has played three Premier League matches so far, unfortunately for Pep Guardiola and his men, they have suffered a humiliating 2-5 defeat at the hands of Leicester at Etihad on September 27. They have also suffered a setback against newly-promoted Leeds United as their meeting ended 1-1.

It is only in their Premier League opener that Manchester City showed prowess as they started brightly by defeating Wolves 1-3 on September 21. Hence, Manchester City has won just a match, drew once, and lost once in three matches. This has placed them in the 14th spot on the league table.

Mikel Arteta

As for the Arsenal football club, it has not been a bad start for Mikel Arteta’s team. So far in the new season, Arsenal have played 4 Premier League matches in which they won three and lost one.

Arteta and his men started this season campaign against Fulham on September 12. The match ended beautifully for the Gunners as they ran away with a 3-0 victory.

They went on to beat West Ham United 2-1 and then the reigning Premier League champions came to spoil Arsenal’s beautiful ride. Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Arsenal 3-1.

Arsenal’s last Premier match before the international break was against Sheffield United on October 4. The London club won Sheffield United 2-1 to remain in the 4th spot on the league table.

As Manchester City would want to avoid being humiliated by Arsenal like how Leicester City humiliated them on September 27, Arsenal would want to do the unthinkable and probably attempt to continue to give Guardiola more reasons to worry this season.

With the possible introduction of £45 million deadline day signing, Thomas Partey, Arsenal could be more compact especially in the midfield where the 28-year-old Ghanaian midfielder is expected to operate. If the former Atletico Madrid midfielder combines well with the rest of the squad today, Arsenal would be a difficult puzzle to solve.
