Manchester City are preparing for the possible exit of their no.1 goalkeeper Ederson in the summer, according to reports.
The Brazil international could leave the Etihad outfit this summer despite cementing his place as the club’s first-team goalkeeper.
Fabrizio had reported that Saudi clubs are interested in Ederson with the 30-year-old seriously considering taking up a new challenge away from Etihad.
Now, according to Transfer Live, Manchester City have made moves to sign a goalkeeper this summer should Ederson leave as reported.
The report claims the 2022-23 Champions League winners are eyeing French and Serie A goalkeeper Mike Maignan as a possible replacement for Ederson.
“Manchester City will look to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan if Ederson leaves this summer,” the report says.
While nothing has yet been done on the side of the said suitors for Mike Maignan’s services, Pep Guardiola is reportedly hopeful of convincing Ederson to stay at the club for the next campaign.
Guardiola still considers Ederson key to his Manchester City and will pull the necessary triggers to keep the 250-cap Premier League stopper. However, the Spaniard is also known for his no-smoothing style of player management and will stay off the route should Ederson press for his exit.
Ederson joined Manchester City from Benfica in 2017 and has been a key part of Pep Guardiola’s triumphant run in the last seven seasons. With his overachieving influence on City’s transfer dealings, Pep Guardiola is believed to have played a big role in bringing Ederson to Etihad but could have to look for a replacement for the 30-year-old, as reported.
Ederson has two years left on his City contract but could be plying his trade away from Etihad next season.
Ederson’s targeted replacement, Mike Maignan, also has a contract with AC Milan and was reportedly nearing a new contract with the club but nothing has been confirmed yet.
