Manchester United left-back, Luke Shaw has noted that the club’s new signing Amad Diallo plays like Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and hopes that the 18-year-old winger can develop into the mode of the Algerian star.
Amad Diallo joined Manchester United on January 2, 2021, from Atalanta for a transfer fee worth €21millon. Since he joined the Premier League club, he has not been able to make a Premier League appearance with United’s senior team.
He has however made two junior Premier League appearances for United’s youth team. In the same vein, the coach of Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the Cote d’Ivoire youngster 7 minutes of football in the Europa League.
Though the right-winger has been highly rated since he joined Manchester United, he has not been given enough time to showcase his skills. There are reports that he might earn his first Premier League appearance on Sunday, February 21, when United play Newcastle United at 20:00.
While Amad Diallo is waiting for his Premier League debut, Luke Shaw who has been playing for Manchester United since July 2014 described Amad as a player with great skills. The defender said the youngster has a beautiful first touch.
Shaw went on to admit that Amad Diallo is quick, skillful, and could turn really quick which are attributes of Riyad Mahrez who has scored 7 goals and provided three assists in 30 games in all competitions for Manchester City so far this season.
Shaw said Amad Diallo could be the future of Manchester United and he could get the chance to play in the club’s first team soonest.
The 25-year-old England international went on to reveal that his teammate at Manchester United, Harry Maguire was the first to note that Amad Diallo reminds him of Mahrez when the Algerian football star was playing at Leicester City.
“He’s still so young but he’s come into training and you can tell he’s got confidence,” Shaw said.
“You can tell by the way he plays. His first touch is brilliant, the way he takes the ball and drives at players. He’s got great skill.
“Of course, he’s very young and still got a long way to go but you can tell already that he’s going to be one for the future and I’m sure he’s not far away from maybe getting a first-team appearance…
“It was interesting because Harry (Maguire) said to me the other day that he reminds him of Mahrez when he was at Leicester.
“Really quick, skillful, agility, can turn really quick, got great skills and I would probably agree with Harry, he does remind me of Mahrez.
“Even the way Mahrez plays now. I’ve seen sort of the qualities that Amad obviously has and has shown in training.
“Mahrez is a wonderful player so hopefully if he’s any good like him it’ll be great for United.”
