England defender, Luke Shaw has urged his former coach at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho to forget about the past they had together.

The 25-year-old Manchester United defender who is currently on duty with England national team in the ongoing Euro 2020, wonders why the Portuguese tactician enjoys talking about him.

Luke Shaw had the worst time of his football career during the era of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. Between 2016 and 2018 when the Portuguese tactician was in charge of Manchester United, the 25-year-old defender managed to make 55 appearances in all competitions in which he scored a goal.

His lack of regular game time during Mourinho’s era earned him only two appearances with the Three Lions of England. As Luke Shaw was struggling to get into the Manchester United’s squad, Mourinho was busy telling the press how terrible the defender was during his time at Old Trafford.

Mourinho’s exit from Manchester United in the mid-2018-2019 season saw the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who decided to give the English defender more room to develop as a player. Under the Norwegian technician, Shaw has made 103 appearances in which he scored two goals.

His newfound form under Solskjaer earned him a place in England’s Euro 2020 squad that topped their group to qualify for the round of 16. The head coach of the team, Gareth Southgate, has given Shaw two starts so far in the tournament.

Over three years after Mourinho stopped working with Shaw, he has not stopped commenting negatively about the player. Ahead of England’s quarter-finals against Germany scheduled to kick-off on Tuesday, June 29, Mourinho described Shaw’s free-kick in England’s last group game which was against the Czech Republic as “drastically bad”.

While reacting to Mourinho’s criticism which he made as a radio pundit, Luke Shaw said he is living in the head of the former Manchester United coach who has been appointed to manage Roma from 2021-2022 season.

“What’s his problem? Luke Shaw wonders. “Clearly I am in his head a lot and he clearly thinks about me a lot.

“There is no hiding that we didn’t get on. I think he was a brilliant manager but, you know, the past is the past. It is time to move on. I am trying to move on but, obviously, he can’t.

“He continuously talks about me, which I find quite strange. Even some of the lads have said ‘what’s his problem?’ and ‘why does he keep talking?’ He just needs to move on.”

“What he says now is nothing compared to how it used to be if I am being totally honest,” Shaw added.

“I am so past it now. I have grown up a lot. During the three years I had with him, I learned a lot. I find it easy to ignore him now and even laugh about it. But it’s better just to ignore it and move on with my life.”

Luke Shaw has been playing for the England national team since March 5, 2014. Due to his inconsistency at the club level, he has managed to make just 12 appearances. He is expected to play a part in England’s quarter-final game against Germany on Tuesday night.
